EATON International School’s inaugural school lecture series was delivered by the school’s management board chairman Sir Geoff Hampton.

A renowned British educationalist with some 30 years experience managing schools in the UK and a British university in the Midlands, Sir Hampton has been a teacher, head teacher, education dean and deputy vice-chancellor.

He is currently University of Wolverhampton Education Central chief executive.

As a non-profit company that aims to help improve school standards, this is an excellent platform for him to act in an advisory capacity to the senior management team at Eaton International School on curriculum, standards setting, assessment and current best school practices.

In his lecture on “What Makes A Great School”, Sir Hampton shared with the audience comprising Eaton governors, teachers and parents that teaching is an art that requires its practitioners to spark a child’s enthusiasm for learning.

According to him, when teachers spark that excitement, the child never stops learning, thinking and enquiring.

He believes that it is better to ensure that a child enjoys learning rather than go through a set series of things every day in class, just because it is compulsory.

A great school has fantastic teachers who treat teaching as an art and takes responsibility for the result.

At the end of the day, a great school stays true to the fundamental ethos of education and the teachers convey to students something they have developed a passion and excitement for.

With Sir Hampton on board, Eaton International School is leveraging on his expertise and reputation to create a great school in Asia.

Eaton is also collaborating with Sir Hampton on the provision of continuing professional development for its teachers, who are qualified expatriate teachers, to ensure they remain relevant and current in the delivery of the British curriculum.

A new permanent school is currently being built on an adjacent six-acre site within the Jade Hills township – a signature Gamuda development located near Country Heights Kajang.

Phase 1 of the new school will be ready in September 2016.

The school’s next Open Day will be on March 28 (Saturday).

Personal counselling will be provided by the principal and deputy principal and a school tour will be available for visitors during the Open Day.
