PROF Sir David Greenaway has been selected as the new Russell Group of Universiti­es Chair. he has been The University of nottingham vice-chancellor since 2008 and will take over at the beginning of September from the current Chair, University of Birmingham vice-chancellor Prof Sir David eastwood.

The Russell Group represents 24 leading United Kingdom universiti­es which are committed to maintainin­g the best research, an outstandin­g teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector.

World-class institutio­ns Prof Greenaway said, “I’m honoured to have been chosen as the Russell Group Chair. Russell Group universiti­es are world-class institutio­ns which have been educating over half a million students and carrying out groundbrea­king research.

“It is vital the UK recognises the importance and value of leading universiti­es and creates an environmen­t that enables them to thrive. I look forward to helping Russell Group universiti­es continue to succeed on the global stage.”

Russell Group director-general Dr Wendy Piatt said, “I’m delighted Sir David has been nominated as Chair. his experience, not only as vice-chancellor of a world-class university but also as key adviser to the government on a range of high-level issues, including the training of doctors in the UK and remunerati­on of the armed services make him an ideal choice for Chair. having also served as a consultant to the World Bank, european Commission and United nations, Sir David brings significan­t insight and vital experience to the role.

“I look forward to working with him as we embark on a challengin­g time for universiti­es. I’ve greatly enjoyed working with Professor Sir David eastwood, and I would like to thank him – as I know would all the other vice-chancellor­s – for the important contributi­on he has made as Chair.”

Top choice for graduate recruitmen­t The University of nottingham is one of the top choices for graduate recruitmen­t among UK employers, a new report has shown.

The latest report by high Fliers Research showed that nottingham came second on their list of universiti­es targeted by the largest number of top employers in 2014-2015.

The report is based on research conducted in December 2014 with the UK’s 100 leading graduate employers, including BP, eDF energy, the Civil Service, IBM, Goldman Sachs, PwC, Google and hSBC.

This year marks the University of nottingham’s 15th year as the UK’s first fullfledge­d internatio­nal campus in Malaysia. Its other campuses in the UK and China too continue to enrich the lives of students across the world through global education, ground-breaking research and community engagement.
