Assisting through teaching of English

THE English language is widely used across the globe as a medium of communication and being proficient in the language is a necessary requirement in most walks of life.

In Malaysia, many school students need additional support to help them enhance their English language proficiency and ELS Language Centres aims to help potential English teachers develop their English language abilities through its Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programme.

Students in the programme can choose to participate in teaching an actual class in a partner school from the start of their first semester through the ELS Community Assistance Programme (CAP). This unique opportunity enables future teachers to enjoy the experience of teaching students from the community in a live classroom environment, coordinated and carefully supervised by ELS lecturers.

In support of this initiative, ELS is offering its Diploma in TESOL students who choose to participate and contribute to the CAP, a subsidy of RM6,000 from the programme fees.

“We want to ensure we train passionate people who are able and willing to give back to the community,” says ELS College Division deputy principal Josephine Teo. The College Division oversees the Diploma in TESOL programme.

“With students from around the region enrolled in our Diploma programme, the Community Assistance Programme opportunity will benefit Malaysian school students by having a mix of cultures and backgrounds that would create the best teaching and learning environment for English.”

The MQA-accredited Diploma in TESOL offers a unique opportunity for those who enrol to learn to teach English from the best in the language training industry. Not only is this programme suitable for students from all around the world who wish to embark on a teaching career, it is also a programme for professionals seeking a change in their careers.

Obtaining professional credentials such as the Diploma in TESOL will undeniably open new opportunities for individuals who want to share their love of English with others.
