Coconut craze

- StarSpecial.

ALMOST every part of the coconut can be used – its flesh can be eaten, its juice can be drunk and is rich in electrolytes, while its outer layers have multiple uses and its milk can be used for cooking.

Traditionally, coconut oil is used in the kitchen due to its high smoke point – it is suitable for baking and stir-frying or as a dairy-free butter replacement.

Adding a tablespoon of coconut oil into hot tea can help speed up recovery from a cold, while rubbing it into the scalp daily stimulates hair growth.

Recent research has shed light on other uses of coconut oil.

Alzheimer’s disease destroys the brain and causes memory loss, poor judgment, confusion, disorientation, agitation and the loss of ability to speak or take care of oneself.

While there is no cure for Alzheimer's, coconuts appear to be able to prevent and reverse it without the use of drugs, surgeries, radiation or hi-tech medical devices.

In one study, Alzheimer’s patients who consumed a drink containing medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) scored better on cognitive tests than those who drank a beverage without MCTs. They showed an improvement in cognitive function after one dose of MCTs.

MCTs can be gleaned from one’s diet and the largest natural source is in coconut oil.

Studies show diets rich in coconut oil benefit those with high blood sugar. It slows down the sugar absorption in the blood stream, reducing insulin resistance and obesity.

Some research suggests that dietary use of coconut oil is linked to increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL or “good”) cholesterol.

The latest research is related to Cultured Coconut Extract (CCE), which is produced using an Advanced Microaerophilic Fermentation Platform.

Preliminary research has found that it has enhanced therapeutic effects, including antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory antioxidants. Most promising is its effects against dengue, which is in its pre-clinical testing stage at Felda Wellness Corporation (FWC).

CCE can be used for consumption and for skin, hair and nails. It has been dermatologically tested, with key effectiveness against eczema.
