Samsung has launched the world’s first multi-function printer (mFP) range that runs on android.

as the smart multiXpress range is powered by the popular android operating system, users will be able to customise and install apps just like on a smartphone or tablet.

However, users can only install apps from the samsung Printing app store and at the moment the company has made available 13 apps and six widgets.

users can use the widgets to customise the homescreen to their liking – for instance, they can install a Page Count widget to track printouts at a glance.

There is also an app for browsing the Web, which will allow users to print content from the Internet such as maps and photos without having to use a mobile device or PC.

The printers use longer lasting toner and drum technologies which will lower the total cost of ownership, said samsung malaysia Electronics president Lee sang Hoon.

“samsung’s new printing solution features an intuitive user interface and offers better performance. This is the best solution to integrate with the modern mobile and fluid workplace,” he said.

The smart multiXpress comprises four series of printers – X4300 (a3 colour mFPs), K4350 (a3 monochrome mFPs), m5370 (a4 monochrome mFPs) and m4580 (a4 monochrome mFPs).

all the printers run on a 1gHz dual-core processor, which samsung claims will boost document processing and printing speed by up to 1.5x compared with a single-core printer.

The price for the printers range from Rm6,499 to Rm47,500.
