Faster and safer wound recovery

-

WHILE most injuries that occur at home are not serious, every home should be prepared to treat a wound immediately, with a suitable wound treatment regime to promote better wound healing.

Knowing how to treat minor wounds will help avoid infections, which can become serious.

If you are diabetic and cut yourself even while trimming nails, you should treat the cut immediately using solutions targeted at wound healing – to prevent the wound from becoming serious.

First, the wound should be cleaned with an antiseptic. This is followed by a wound-healing solution to accelerate the healing process. Wounds and ulcers that do not heal within three months are often considered chronic – some wounds may never heal on their own or may take years to heal.

According to the consultant orthopaedic surgeon from Ko Klinik, Dr Ko Chung Yee ( pic), “People with diabetes are more prone to developing foot ulcers from a small cut or wound due to loss of feeling from nerve damage, which may take longer to heal and can be prone to becoming worse.

“It is important to keep medication that can be used to clean and heal wounds immediately on standby at home, to stop the wound from progressing and to aid the process of wound healing.”

A breakthrough in effective wound healing is Advanced Wound Care – novel products and treatment solutions used to disinfect and accelerate healing process.

An example is the SilvoSept antiseptic spray and the Chitoheal healing gel. SilvoSept antiseptic solution is effective against more than 650 types of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Silver nanoparticles interact with proteins in the cell and attack the respiratory chain, paralysing cell division, finally leading to bacterial cell death.

Chitoheal gel is a biological, moist wound dressing that is applied directly after disinfecting the wound.

It acts as a chemoattractant, enhancing the passage of the body’s components necessary to start the process of healing straight away at the wound site.

When applied on the skin, the patented ingredient in Chitoheal gel acts as a secondary skin, protecting the wound and providing a moist antibacterial environment.

At KO Specialist Medical Centre, treatment for wounds, whether acute or chronic, is now available.

Dr Ko says, “Chronic wounds cause patients severe emotional and physical stress if not managed adequately. Furthermore it is important to treat chronic wounds so that they do not deteriorate.”
