Importance of dynamic balance

-

ISOGAI Dynamic Therapy (IDT), also known as the “Binding Legs Technique”, emphasises using Isogai Alignment Belts to bind both legs for a dynamic balance of the human structure, where the spine is in its correct position in the spinal column. The technique was discovered by renowned Japanese osteopath, Dr Kimiyoshi Isogai, in the 1950s, who has written over 200 books on IDT before his demise. This explained the importance of keeping the spine in proper alignment.

As part of the central nervous system, the spinal cord passes vertically through the spine together with major nerve supplies. The spine has its normal contour and sections – the cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and sacrum. It will only be able to function normally if its position in the spinal column is normal.

The spine also serves as a pillar and controls the body’s intrinsic balancing ability. If this pillar is distorted, the centre of balance will be affected accordingly.

There are various reasons for spinal distortion, but the major causes are consistently incorrect body posture, physical movements and habits.

Many common incorrect habits such as crossing the legs, slouching and slumping while sitting would lead to leg length discrepancies and cause an uneven pelvis, which eventually results in a distorted spine.

Leg length discrepancies have become a common body imperfection that has not been given much attention. The longer leg will force the same side pelvis to lift higher to accommodate it and that compromise will lead to the spine tilting according to the uneven pelvis.

The spine is able to support the structure and perform its role in the human system because it has the pelvis as a firm base holding it upright with support from its surrounding muscle, ligaments, tendons and bones.

The pelvis also allows full flexibility for the spine to move according to its centre of balance.

If the pelvis is uneven, it is natural that the spine will tilt to a certain direction as a compromise. This will result in bending of the spine from its natural curvature and cause uneven compression surrounding the spine, which in turn causes discomfort such as soreness, pains, stiffness and numbness.

IDT is a selfmanaged therapy for neck and back pains. Patients will be guided to practise a series of correct physical movements by binding the legs followed by correct usage of Isogai tools, such as the MOB Back Healer that works with the Isogai Alignment Belts for back and leg problems; the MOB Neck Healer that works with the Isogai Alignment Belts for neck and shoulder problems and the MOB Knees And Legs Therapeutic Bench for knees and leg problems.

IDT has been well known and accepted in Japan and Taiwan for the last 60 years. Its success is attributed to its technique, which is practical, effective and safe to practise on a daily basis. The ultimate purpose of IDT is to encourage everyone to protect their natural structure by discipline and awareness.

IDT in Malaysia is promoted through public seminars and users are given training to acquire the knowhow.
