Eco- friendly heat pumps

-

GREATER interest in environmentally friendly and cost- effective pool heating has seen an increase in the use of heat pumps around Australia, with more pool owners recognising its benefits.

“Today, sustainability is a key factor with pool owners who are focused on the most cost- effective and efficient way of heating their pool.

“The spotlight has fallen on heat pumps,” says Zane Solar and Heating product manager Adam Shelley.

“Heat pumps are a great way to heat pool water as they are super efficient and consume very little energy to operate compared to traditional methods.

“Unlike solar pool heating systems which rely on direct sunlight to heat water, heat pumps extract heat from the air ( similar to a reverse cycle air conditioner) and use that heat to increase the pool water temperature.”

Compared to gas and electric pool heaters, heat pumps use just a fraction of the energy to generate the same amount of heat.

Although heat pumps initially take longer than gas heaters to warm up the pool or spa water, they are more economical and maintain the heating as well as gas heaters.

“There is really no contest when it comes to the difference in running costs between a heat pump and gas pool heaters. Heat pumps cost a lot less to operate because they transfer existing heat from the air rather Compared to gas and electric pool heaters, heat pumps use just a fraction of the energy to generate the same amount of heat.

than burn fossil fuels such as natural gas or propane.

“In fact, you can save up to 80% over LPG and 50% over natural gas simply by installing a Waterco heat pump,” Shelley says.

advanced performance

Waterco has expanded its heat pump range with the introduction of the Electroheat MKIII.

It it built with an ozone- friendly R410A refrigerant, which has dual benefits – it is kinder to the

environment and improves the heat pump’s performance.

Its key features include:

Temperature management and self diagnosis

The Electroheat MKIII’s LED control panel features a continuous digital pool temperature display and a self- diagnosis system.

Weather proof cabinet

The heat pump’s cabinet is constructed from heavy- duty UV- resistant ABS body panels that are impervious to corrosion.

R410A refrigerant gas

This type of gas has better thermal exchange properties, resulting in overall performance gains in terms of system efficiency.

High- density titanium heat exchanger

The use of titanium in heat exchanger construction offers better protection against erosion and corrosion, as it is resistant to chlorinated water, ozone, iodine, Baquacil, bromine and salt water.

Titanium heat exchangers also have a longer life expectancy than standard copper heat exchangers.

Scroll compressors

The Electroheat MKIII is powered by Scroll compressors, the quietest yet most powerful and energy- efficient compressors in the market.
