Engineering a top spot in the region
STUDENTS and staff at the University of Southampton Malaysia campus are celebrating the institution’s No. 1 ranking in the UK for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, according to the 2016 Guardian University Guide.
This is the eighth time in the last 11 years that Southampton has topped the table for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, one of three degree programmes offered by the University of Southampton at its Malaysia Campus within EduCity@ Iskandar.
The university is also ranked No. 4 for Mechanical Engineering, also offered in Malaysia – the 11th consecutive year for the university in the top 10 of this subject table.
The table includes degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics.
The rankings came just weeks after the 2016 Complete University Guide listed Southampton as third for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and fifth for both Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Overall, the University of Southampton has consolidated its position among the UK’s top 15 institutions, being placed 14th overall in both The Guardian ( after a rise of five places from last year) and the Complete University Guide ( a rise of two places).
University of Southampton Electronics and Computer Science head, Prof Neil White, is particularly pleased with the results for Electronics and Computer Science.
“These rankings reflect the impact of high- quality education and world- class research activity on employability for our graduates,” he said.
“This is great news for prospective students who are thinking about coming to Southampton to study our degree programmes later this year. Our students can be sure that when they graduate they will be in demand by the leading high- tech companies in the world.”
The University of Southampton Malaysia’s premier undergraduate MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics, MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering and MEng Mechanical Engineering programmes allow students to study using some of the latest research facilities and equipment in the world and put the theory they learn into practice to deliver real results.
