Therapy brings positive changes
The attending therapist presented himself via his puppet as well.
All dialogues with Meera and the significant others were conducted via the puppets. This created a more playful and less confrontational atmosphere.
This technique had shown that children, even from the early age of three, are perfectly capable of taking on the role of the significant other.
Indeed, Meera appeared to respond spontaneously from her new role position, which implied the capacity to empathise with the other after the third session. This method made it possible to apply the principal psychodrama techniques on Meera, making the protocol a fully- fledged psychodrama application for children with Asperger’s Syndrome.
After the 12- session therapeutic programme, Meera was able to talk and interact like a sevenyear- old would be expected to.
Her tendency of unintentionally hurting other children had significantly reduced. Her parents had not been called by the principal for any sort of misconduct since her improvement.
