Lincoln Corners present...
LINCOLN Corners across Malaysia will focus on entrepreneurship and small business developments this month, with events, discussions and seminars on the subjects. These will coincide with the United States Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Malaysia from today to Aug 6 for the Asean ministerial meetings, as well as the Young South- East Asian Leaders Initiative ( YSEALI) Generation Startup Weekend Asean, a workshop focused on entrepreneurship for more than 120 Asean youths.
Members of the public are invited to attend these seminar- workshops, which will be run by business and entrepreneurship experts, and Fulbright and YSEALI alumni. Alongside these events, the Corners will also have a selection of materials on entrepreneurship and small business development to browse and borrow.

“So You Want To Start A Small Business? First, Think Strategically”, Aug 20, Lincoln Corner Kuala Lumpur:
Run by Malaysian Fulbright Fellow and business management consultant Sachi Sellasamy, this session will enable those planning to start a business to think strategically to set a solid foundation, be prepared to avoid risks, and to mitigate and manage risks that may occur.

“Business Model Mapping: Lean Canvas”, Aug 27, Lincoln Corner Kuala Lumpur:
This session will be run by Sabirah Sulaiman, a social entrepreneur, researcher and environmental sustainability activist, and will focus on how companies may start- up, make money and deliver value to customers. She will help participants understand and use the mapping method, get insights from real business examples, and understand new ways of evaluating businesses.

“Starting And Managing A Small Business”, week of Aug 17 ( date to be confirmed), Lincoln
Corner Kelantan:
Led by faculty members from University Malaysia Kelantan’s Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises, this programme will be of particular interest to business students, young people and other members of the public who wish to be self- employed, and those interested in learning the secrets to starting and operating successful business ventures.
Books on entrepreneurship that are available include:
> Specifically written for youth interested in entrepreneurial careers, this book highlights the key questions to ask before starting a business, presents examples of small business ventured by young entrepreneurs, and demonstrates how entrepreneurship promotes economic growth.

by Kimberly Palmer: The author, an entrepreneur herself, recounts stories of people who are liberating themselves from financial strain by running their own business.

by Jay Goltz: Chicago businessman Goltz, who owned and operated a business which is now the largest custom retail picture framing facility in the world, discusses what it takes for a small business to succeed.
> by Brant Cooper: This is a great book for those interested in case studies of entrepreneurship, where the author discusses how visionaries create products, innovate new ventures, and disrupt markets.
