Fun indoors

-

RECENTLY, Starchild asked readers to submit their letters and drawings on the topic, My Favourite Indoor Activities. Let’s hear what they have to say.

“On rainy days, I like to solve puzzles. Puzzles are fun and they help to improve my memory. It is wonderful to have my family join me in solving puzzles,” writes Clarisse Sim Kai

Yi, five. “My favourite indoor activities are reading books, playing puzzles and drawing. I enjoy these activities,” writes Sharmithaa

Gobi, eight. When she can’t go outdoors,

Sarah Celina, six, likes to watch television, read books and clean her room. “I also enjoy working on jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and word puzzles. When I have company, I play board games such as Snakes And Ladders and Monopoly. I also love traditional games such as congkak and cardgame Happy Family.”

How Yan Ran, eight, says: “When indoors, I like to read books.”

Sean Logan Krishna Anand,

10, says: “My favourite indoor

activity is playing with Lego blocks. I can mix and match the pieces and build different things. My favourite Lego set is Ironman.”

“I love to play with building blocks, read books and dance. I also enjoy drawing and singing,” writes Alice Ng Chia

Yen, six.

Natalie Chai Ming Lie, 10, writes: “My favourite indoor activities are playing card games with my father, painting, reading, dancing and playing hopscotch.”

“On rainy days when I can’t head to the park for outdoor activities, I usually play board games like checkers, Chinese checkers, Japanese chess Shogi, and chess. But the game I like to play most is congkak. It was the first board game my mother taught me. She said I needed to learn it because I am a Malaysian, and congkak is a traditional Malay game. Congkak is a very fun game. I like the sound of the marbles when I put them into my pit, and also the flush of glory when I win. Everytime I don’t get to play outside, I’ll try to play congkak with my mother. She’s good, so some-

times she wins,” writes Chan

Hooi Cheng, 11. – Compiled by Sheela Chandran
