No monkey business

-

I WOKE up early on a beautiful Saturday morning. My older sister, father and mother had gone out for breakfast.

I took a bath and got dressed. Suddenly, I heard a loud screech.

“Ouch!” I cried. The noise was just too piercing for my ears. I slowly opened the door. I was terrified to see a monkey on the banister. It looked right into my eyes. It screeched again and more monkeys came.

I could sense they were going to hurt me, so I ran into my younger sister’s room and locked the door.

Then I slipped into my granny’s room. She was sleeping soundly. I locked the door again and looked out of the window.

My sister, father and mother had returned. They were holding packets of food for breakfast. I shouted to them that there were monkeys in the house. They rushed into the house and tried to catch the mon- keys but none of them succeeded.

Suddenly, an idea came to mind. I took a big net, some bananas and a huge cage. I put the bananas in the net and showed it to the fierce monkeys.

They were attracted to the bananas and jumped into the net. I clutched the net tightly, put the monkeys into the cage and locked it. My family members were relieved. My father called the zoo- keepers of Taiping Zoo and asked them to take away the monkeys. Before the zoo- keepers left, they praised me for my quick thinking.

That evening, many reporters came to my house. They interviewed me. I was so happy.

The next day, I was in the news. I saw my picture under the headline, “Young girl saves Taman Jati”.

Mum and Dad were so happy. They treated me to chocolate mint ice cream and a mango smoothie.
