Revel in the warmth
GREATER interest in environmentally friendly and cost- effective pool heating has seen an increase in the use of heat pumps around Australia, with more pool owners recognising the myriad of benefits.
“Today, sustainability is a key factor with pool owners who are focused on the most cost- effective and efficient way of heating their pool and the spotlight has fallen on heat pumps,” says Zane Solar and Heating product manager Adam Shelley.
“Heat pumps are a great way to heat pool water as they are efficient and consume little energy to operate compared to traditional methods.
“Unlike solar pool heating systems which rely on direct sunlight to heat water, heat pumps extract heat from the air ( similar to a
WHEN lifestyle chiropractor Dr Michael Chan treated his patients, he realised he had to get them to sleep more.
He shares that sleeping six hours or less a night is equivalent to 15 years of physiological ageing in just one week.
And 66% of the population are not getting enough sleep, leading to a loss in concentration, memory, attention span and health.
To sleep well, a good mattress is important. Dr Chan, who graduated from RMIT Australia, discloses that proper mattresses should be:
> Of a reasonable thickness, at least close to a foot.
> Do not produce “pockets” that tend to stick out all over the place.
> Have a consistent surface to provide proper support for the whole body. reverse cycle air conditioner) and use that heat to increase pool water temperature.”
Compared with gas and electric pool heaters, heat pumps use just a fraction of the energy to generate the same amount of heat.
Waterco has expanded its heat pump range with the introduction of the Electroheat MKIII. The MKIII has been built with ozone- friendly R410A refrigerant, which has dual benefits – it is kinder to the environment and improves the heat pump’s performance. Key features of the Electroheat MKIII: > Temperature management and self- diagnosis. The Electroheat MKIII’s LED control panel features a continuous digital pool temperature display and incorporates a self- diagnosis system. In the event of an
Dr Chan relates how he chanced upon the Hong Kong and Singapore brand Sea Horse mattresses, pillows and sofas.
“I happened to come across a store selling Sea Horse brand products. I went in to take a look as the store looked interesting and found out that the prices were reasonable.
“Once I sat down on one of the mattresses, I thought to myself, ‘ Well, this is what I’ve always told my patients to look for. It’s firm and stable’,” he says.
But with so many mattress brands in the market, some ranging from RM1,500 to RM15,000, the perception is the more expensive it is, the higher the quality. operational issue, the control panel will display diagnostic error codes.
> Weatherproof cabinet. The heat pump’s cabinet is constructed with heavy- duty UV- resistant ABS body panels that are impervious to corrosion.
> R410A refrigerant gas. Described as the refrigerant of the future, this type of gas has better thermal exchange properties, resulting in overall performance gains in terms of system efficiency.
> High- density titanium heat exchanger. The use of titanium in the heat exchanger construction boosts protection against erosion and corrosion, as it is resistant to chlorinated water, ozone, iodine, Baquacil, bromine and salt water.

Dr Chan disagrees. “Mattresses need to be changed and parts such as springs are going to break down every five to seven years.”
Sales manager Steve Lee says Sea Horse mattresses are made from several layers of high- density compressed foam without springs. The special ticking fabric is Belgianmade and spun from bamboo charcoal.
It is also anti- bacterial and anti- dust mites. Some Sea Horse mattress models also come with dual sides – one softer and the other firmer.
