HAS it really been 10 years since Hujan was formed? It seems like only yesterday that the band burst onto the local alternative rock scene with hit songs like Pagi Yang

Gelap and Aku Skandal. Next month, the band will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special concert on Oct 31 at KL Live. This will be its first show together since the band announced that it was going on hiatus two years ago.

During the press conference last week at Kulcats Bario in Kuala Lumpur to announce the concert,

the band treated us to a string of its past hits – Kembara, Aku

Skandal, Empayar Mu and Pagi Yang Gelap, which made us realise just how much we’ve missed Hujan’s music.

The four members of the band – lead singer Noh Salleh, lead guitarist Hezry “AG Coco” Hafidz, bassist Izzat Uzaini and drummer Azham “Ambobzeela” Ahmad – shared that they actually had no plans to hold a 10th anniversary concert at all.

In fact, it was their fans, called “Raingers”, who initiated the call for a show to commemorate the milestone through the social media hashtag # Hujan10Tahun. The hashtag grew so popular that prepaid mobile service provider Hotlink took notice, and decided to step in to help organise the concert.

“We had not planned to do anything for the 10th anniversary. We would probably have just gone for dinner somewhere to celebrate,” Noh said with a laugh. “It was the Raingers who came up with the hashtag # Hujan10Tahun. And we are thankful to Hotlink for giving us the platform to celebrate our 10th anniversary.”

It all started in 2005, when Noh uploaded a demo onto then popular social media platform MySpace. He later hooked up AG Coco, Izzat, Azham and keyboardist Hang Dimas to form Hujan. The band released its first EP, 1,

2, 3, Go!, in 2006, and has since released two other EPs and four full- length studio albums. In 2009, it won the Anugerah Industri Muzik ( AIM) Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song. Hujan’s last album was 2012’ s

Sang Enemy, and since then, the band has been on hiatus, with each member busy with his own solo projects. Conspicuously absent from the press conference was Dimas, who is currently residing in Indonesia. “He is currently working and has a family there. Whether he wants to join the con- cert or not, we will leave it up to him,” said Noh.

AG Coco said that the concept of the upcoming concert will be a lot more rock ‘ n’ roll than their previous shows. “We want to take our audience and fans on a journey back in time, starting with our latest songs, and going back to our earlier days,” he said.

The Hujan 10 Tahun concert will be held at 4pm on Oct 31, at KL Live, Kuala Lumpur. There are only 1,200 tickets available for the show, each costing RM53 ( not including RM3 service fee). Get your tickets from www.galactix.asia/hujan10tahun
