SAtUrDAY & SUNDAY: This musical treat is a version based on a rhyme written by Roald Dahl and published in his book, Revolting

Rhymes. Actors from Dandi Production­s will present a fantastic showcase, with an 18m “beanstalk” that rises from the stage to the ceiling. There will be dramatic music performed by the MPO orchestra, led by Ciarán McAuley.

Suitable for children aged four and above.

SEPt 30: Prof Jarlath Ronayne, founding vicechance­llor of Sunway University, will be presenting a lecture based on Datuk Dr Goh Cheng Teik’s findings on East Asian history and the internatio­nal relations of China and Japan.

Datuk Goh is a former deputy minister in both Tun Hussein Onn and Tun Mahathir Mohamad’s administra­tions. He is the cochairper­son of the Jeffrey Cheah Distinguis­hed Speakers series and adjunct professor of History and Internatio­nal Relations of East Asia at Sunway University.

SAtUrDAY: Publika Shopping will be hosting its fourth Bon Odori festival to commemorat­e the popular summer festival celebrated in Japan.

This year the Bon Odori celebratio­n is a merger of two of Japan’s celebrated cultures: Bon Odori and Cosplay. There will be Bon Odoridance, Yosakoidan­ce and Taiko Drum performanc­es and a fireworks display, a Wishing Board, Make Your Own Fan workshop, and booths selling authentic Japanese food and drinks.

A Japanese Street Parade will also take place where groups of costume dressers will march from the West Gate entrance to the Square. This first ever Japanese street parade in Malaysia will feature a Samurai team, Cosplayers and Yosakoi dancers. Admission is free. Time: 4pm to 10pm.

tILL OCt 16: This is 24yearold Penangite Alex Leong Yim Kuan’s second solo exhibition. His works are described as happy, energetic and detailed. His works have been shown in three auction houses – HBAA, Masterpiec­e Auction and The Edge Auction – where his prices soared way above his reserve price and beyond expectatio­ns. A 64page hard cover art book entitled Alex Leong Retrospect­ive 1991– 2015, presenting some 90 pieces of his work, is available for sale.
