A TOTAL of 199 final year students from 11 vocational colleges ( KV) across Perak participated in the Summer Camp 2015 programme at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology ( UniKL MIMET), Lumut held from Aug 14 to 16.

This programme, organised for the first time by UniKL MIMET, aims to provide an insight to participants on educational challenges of the new millennium, and also to expose participants to education opportunities in UniKL. The programme also seeks to inform participants about the quality of graduates required by the industry and foster cooperation among participants through cognitive and physical activities.

The programme director Marketing Executive Sharadham Sapie said the programme was implemented successfully through the cooperation and the involvement of all parties especially the Council of Vocational College Counselors, Industrial Training Institute of Perak and KVs’ counsellors.

“This programme was designed to ensure all participants were able to communicate and interact directly with students of UNIKL MIMET who were assigned as facilitators,” said Sharadham.

“This approach allowed participants to gain information from facilitators with regards to the experience of studying in university and career opportunities in the marine industries in a leisurely manner.”

Activities conducted in Summer Camp 2015 includes motivational sessions and briefings on effective time management, communication skills training and recreational activities.

Deputy Dean Student Development and Campus Life Style ( SDCL), Associate Professor Dr Mohd Yuzri Mohd Yusop was thrilled with the successful cooperation established between UNIKL MIMET and all vocational colleges involved.

“Participants were involved in numerous physical and cognitive activities in which essential elements such as leadership, problem solving and communication skills were emphasised”.

The programme lasted for three days and ended with prize- giving ceremony for best participants from each of the 14 groups formed during the programme. In addition to best participant awards, KV Seri Manjung was nominated as the best KV of Summer Camp 2015.

The closing ceremony was attended by assistant director of Unit Pembangunan Sahsiah, Bahagian Pendidikan Teknikal dan Vokasional, Mohd Idris Hj Salam, and Mustaza Mat Isa, chairman of Majlis Kaunselor Kolej Vokasional dan Institut Latihan Perindustrian Negeri Perak.
