Teaching with passion
TRINITY College was founded in 1870 after the model of the English Colleges of Oxford and Cambridge. Affiliated as a college of and within the University of Melbourne, the first warden, Dr Alexander Leeper, introduced a system of college tutorials to supplement university lectures, thereby establishing the college as a centre of academic excellence.
Following in this tradition, in 1989, Trinity College Foundation Studies ( TCFS) was established to provide an academically excellent, preparatory pathway for talented international students seeking entry to the University of Melbourne.
TCFS is a rigorous and challenging academic programme taught by leading academics.
The programme has been designed in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and supervised by the university’s Academic Board – therefore able to offer students guaranteed entry into the University of Melbourne undergraduate courses provided the required scores are achieved.
“Teachers at Trinity are very passionate about what they teach. I was struck by how willing they were to help us achieve our academic goals. They encouraged us to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and continue to strive further for academic excellence,” said Ng Zi En from the February Main Program 2014, now studying Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne.
A comprehensive student support programme that includes personal mentoring for every student, careful monitoring of students and attendance and ready access to advice and help provides a smooth transition for students living away from home for the first time.
“My mentor – my psychology teacher, gave me excellent advice. This has helped me grow as a person,” said Nurul Athirah Yelitza Ahmad from February Main Program 2014, now studying Bachelor of Arts ( Media and Communications) at the University of Melbourne.
The unique core curriculum is specifically devoted to developing intellectual breadth.
The university environment requires students to speak in front of others, work in groups, develop an argument and be creative, constructive, analytical and critical.
The academic skills and critical thinking outcomes of the core curriculum give students the confidence and ability to achieve success in their future studies.
Research conducted by the University of Melbourne over a number of years confirms that TCFS graduates are consistently among top performing students.

Consequently, notions of sustainable urban living are of particular interest to my school, and over many years we have developed a depth of expertise in areas including low energy/ low carbon design and sustainable urban transport. We are also passionate about the quality of our teaching. My own PhD was on aspects of architecture education, and this work along with that of others, has informed much of what we do in the classroom or design studio. For RGU, teaching quality is of paramount importance.
Our teachers are both academics and practitioners and we are privileged to have internationally recognised architects and surveyors work with us as core members of our teaching team.
On March 8, I will be holding a seminar at GTower, KL. This will be an opportunity for me to explain what we do in greater detail and present the work of staff and students. I hope to see you there.
