US, UK courses at your doorstep

-

SEGi University Group ( SEGi) has, for over 35 years, equipped graduates from diverse backgrounds with exceptional foundations for high- flying career achievements and personal success.

As one of Malaysia’s largest private higher education provider, SEGi serves more than 27,000 students through six major campuses in the Klang Valley, Penang and Kuching, with programmes tailored to meet both industry and student needs.

With excellent and holistic education provided by experienced academicians, SEGi graduates often find quick employment with some going on to become leaders of their respective industries.

At SEGi College Penang, bright young minds have the option of pursuing worldclass education in the US or UK and gain internationally recognised qualifications.

Amidst the sea of choices available at the campus in George Town, the School of American Degree Program ( SOADP) offers students an enticing combination of prestige, affordability, quality and diversity.

Head of School Dr Jerry Koay said the present economic uncertainty and currency fluctuation presented a challenge for parents in providing the best possible yet affordable tertiary studies for their children.

“The American Degree Program ( ADP) at SEGi Penang fulfils that requirement through an exclusive partnership with Troy University in Alabama state, and a teaching staff comprising specialists of various majors offered,” he said.

It allows students to get their degree via a 4+ 0 pathway at the college, meaning costs would only be a fraction of that in a typical 2+ 2 pathway or full- fledged in- campus study in the US.

The option of PTPTN loans ( subject to approval) also allows parents to enjoy a minimal to near- zero financial commitment for the duration of study. Intakes are in January, April, June, August and October each year.

Degree choices are in Psychology, Business or Communication. With just a minimum of five credits in the SPM or equivalent, school leavers can enter the first year of the ADP without going through foundation studies.

Here, one experiences the American tertiary education philosophy. Instead of a typical degree pathway with a fixed major, students are exposed to a curriculum of general education to broaden their horizons before specialising in the preferred major.

It also has a holistic approach – with classes conducted based on continuous assessments that accurately gauge student performance through assignments, projects and quizzes.

These allow students to go beyond the confines of books, classrooms and exams, and hone their creativity, leadership, confidence and critical thinking skills to face the challenges of a globalised world.

Those leaning towards a UK education will be pleased to know that undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the world- leading research nation have generally lower tuition fees and shorter durations compared to other countries.

Many of the world’s best universities are located in the UK, and SEGi Penang has partnerships with several of them to offer Malaysians an equally inspiring education opportunity.

The Bachelor of Science in International Tourism & Hospitality Management ( BSc ITHM) is offered in partnership with the University of Sunderland.

The Business School offers a wide range of courses from Diploma such as the Dual Award Diploma in Accountancy to BA ( Hons) in Business and Management, BA ( Hons) in Business and Marketing Management etc.

The School of Engineering, IT and Allied Health Sciences also has a partnership with University of Sunderland, as well as the University of Greenwich, through its undergraduate Engineering and IT programmes such as B Eng ( Hons) Electronic and Electric, BSc ( Hons) Software Engineering, B Eng ( Hons) Mechanical Engineering etc.

Computing programmes have long been popular among SPM and Diploma holders, and now, with working adults too. Offered at both Diploma and Degree level, they cover a wide range of topics in depth. Courses offered include BSc ( Hons) Computing.

Through the collaboration with University of Greenwich, computing majors are also recognised and accredited by the British Computer Society ( BSC).
