Better prospects with english

-

ENGLISH has been the lingua franca in the increasingly globalised sectors of business, industry, medicine, technology and education for a number of years now and there is every reason to believe that its influence and importance will continue to grow in the coming years.

Consequently, universities and employers are increasingly looking for young people who are competent in English.

Competence in the language is more than just the ability to pass tests – it is also about having the confidence to communicate fluently and accurately and also about using the language in a variety of everyday situations.

This means that the most effective English programme for people who need to use English as a medium for work or study will be one that incorporates training to tackle a variety of real world situations.

The British Council has been helping people in Malaysia develop their English for decades.

Since its establishment over 80 years ago, it has been the world leader in the teaching and learning of English.

SMART English is an intensive English course designed to help students make real progress with their English in a short period of time.

The compact programme is ideal for school leavers ( post- SPM, STPM, UEC and IGCSE students) who wish to bring up their levels of English quickly before starting college or university, as well as for adults with flexible hours.

On top of the core English lessons, students will also learn Soft Skill modules that will help them get ahead in life.

There are four levels – Elementary, Pre- intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate – with six modules each.

Students will need to sit for a placement test first before they can be placed at the appropriate level.

Each course consists of two 30- hour modules conducted over seven weeks.

Classes are three hours long, conducted by internationally qualified teachers, and held thrice weekly.

You may find yourself with classmates from around the world.

The Core English component will focus on improving students’ speaking, writing, reading and listening skills as well as grammar and vocabulary.

Through interactive, fun and engaging lessons filled with reallife activities, students will rapidly improve and become more confident and fluent.

The Soft Skills component will focus on helping students develop competence in key 21st century skills.

Each week is devoted to a specific area, and students will have the opportunity to learn about ( and practice) skills such as critical thinking, time management, problem solving and working in teams.

The ability to perform such tasks well in English is a powerful addition to any CV.

Students will also receive certificates with grades upon completion of each module and have access to a wealth of online resources that they can utilise for further learning outside the classroom.

In addition, students can attend weekly speaking clubs and writing practice sessions for free.

There are intakes for the fulltime course every month. Classes are small and limited to 20 students each so register today without delay.

The combination of Core English skills and Soft Skills makes SMART English a unique course offering more than just English to provide one with that competitive edge.
