Quality patient care on the agenda

-

ON your first day, you join an international network of colleagues, classmates, staff and organisations in Dublin, Ireland.

Through the Penang Medical College ( PMC) programme, you get to choose your pre- clinical years between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland ( RCSI) or University College Dublin ( UCD) - two prestigious, world- renowned universities.

Their prestigious pre- clinical studies are quoted as an experience of a lifetime with quality education, and exemplary medical professionals as educators in state- of- the- art facilities.

PMC students study and practise with international students from all around the world. Students then return for excellent clinical training at PMC and its teaching hospitals, while remaining as full- time students of RCSI or UCD.

Patient’s agenda and legal obligations

Effective communication contributes over 80% of the information required to define patients' problems and negotiate appropriate solutions.

You will learn the key skills of high- quality listening and explanation, which underpin the ‘ illness’ or ‘ patient’s agenda’.

PMC graduates also gain an acute awareness of ethical principles and practices. This includes their legal obligation to always practise medicine according to the Codes and Laws of the country in which they work in.

Exceptional clinical training

With PMC being the only medical school in Penang, clinical training years here are delivered by an expert clinical faculty in hospitals and clinics that are exclusive to PMC students.

Specialist teaching in every discipline and dedicated professionals ensure students are adept in the hospital environment, and display comprehensive and compassionate patient care.

Testament to the quality of Irish medical education, coupled with exceptional clinical training, is PMC’s ranking among the top medical schools in preparing graduate doctors for their early careers.

Students graduate with three highly prestigious medical degrees - MB BCh BAO ( Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Obstetrics) from the National University Ireland ( NUI), as well as Licentiates of the RCSI ( LRCSI) and Royal College of Physicians of Ireland ( LRCPI).

Global career goals

PMC’s faculty is interested in students’ career goals and finds research, volunteer and work opportunities for them in Ireland, Malaysia and other countries for a wholesome global experience.

Housemanship

PMC graduates are guaranteed housemanship placements in Malaysia, which are recognised by the Irish Medical Council ( IMC).

They are also eligible to apply for internship in Ireland, the only medical school outside the EU whose graduates are eligible to do so.

Many PMC doctors today occupy senior positions in countries ranging from Ireland to Australia, the United States, Brunei, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia.

PMC is considered among the leading private medical colleges in Malaysia, and is wholly owned by the RCSI and UCD - who have some 230 and 145 years of medical history behind them respectively.

PMC is their first joint venture outside Ireland and a powerful statement of the cultural collaboration between two nations half a world apart.

It will be at the Star Education Fair at SPICE Penang this weekend, so visit Booth C40 at the concourse level.
