Complex heroes

JASON Bourne is not going to find any peace ... not until he admits who he really is. Poor guy, he’s been having an identity crisis since 2002’ s The Bourne Identity.

But, hey, it’s a good thing for movie audiences because everyone’s favourite rogue Treadstone agent is back, still played by Matt Damon and still miffed that he joined that top- secret black ops programme because of a lie.

Looking at the latest trailer for Jason Bourne, it looks like we are in for a thrilling and action- packed good time.

Bourne beats up a whole lot of people here and does some crazy driving too.

After the failed attempt to replace Damon with Jeremy Renner ( pfffffft!), it’s good to see the actor back in Bourne mode with returning director Paul Greengrass ( The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum).

It’s unclear what the story is but according to Deadline. com, it draws some influence from the Edward Snowden controversy.

What we see in the trailer is the superspy working with CIA agent Nicky ( Julia Stiles), who has hacked into the CIA’s black ops files.

We’ll just have to wait and see what it’s all about when the movie opens on July 28. Others in the cast include Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones.

Next, say hello to the latest actors portraying The Magnificent Seven – Vincent D’Onofrio, Martin Sensmeier, Manuel Garcia- Rulfo, Ethan Hawke, Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Lee Byung- hun.

Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai has been reinterpreted many times over since it came out in 1954, with perhaps the best known and most successful version being the classic John Sturges 1960 Western starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson.

The other versions and Magnificent Seven sequels never quite reached the same heights as those two.

This year, director Antoine Fuqua gives it a shot and from the teaser trailer, it is easy to conclude one thing – it’s going to be a fun ride with Pratt playing a charming rogue with all the likeability he has showcased in all his other movie roles so far. Both Washington and Hawke look equally comfortable in cowboy gear.

It is set in the town of Rose Creek, where a cruel industrialist ( Peter Sarsgaard) is slaughtering the townsfolk who stand up to him. The town gets help from seven mercenaries, who find themselves fighting for more than money.

The Magnificent Seven shoots its way into cinemas on Sept 22. –
