Unique holistic learning experience

-

THIS August, a new international school will officially open its doors in Tropicana, Petaling Jaya.

St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia ( SJIIM) is set to nurture holistic learners at all levels with its values- centred education approach based on the best of the globally recognised Lasallian ethos.

Although this will be its first Malaysian institution, St Joseph International has already made its mark in the region with the 164- year- old St Joseph’s Institution and St Joseph’s Institution International School in Singapore.

Building on its brother schools’ extensive history of educational excellence, SJIIM aims to initiate in the future a collaborative learning platform to encourage sharing of knowledge and resources between the institutions. Neoh Soon Ken, marketing and communications director of SJIIM, has indicated that for its founding batch of students, the registrations for all levels, except for examination Years 11 and 13, have been more than encouraging so far.

“The selected programmes offer global flexibility to the students, who will have wider tertiary options when they graduate with International General Certificate of Secondary Education ( IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate qualifications.

“This gives students and their parents the advantage of being able to make and alter educational decisions at every schooling level,” says Neoh.

SJIIM will be able to cater to 1,500 plus students upon completion of its six- acre ( 2.43ha) campus, which is currently in the final stages of development.

Its comprehensive range of facilities will include state- of- theart libraries and laboratories, music, arts and sports spaces, swimming and wading pools, a Lasallian formation centre and ample parking space complemented by a campus- wide security system.

The tagline Lasallian Ethos, International Perspective, Caring Hearts is central to SJIIM’s philosophy – it is a mark of St John Baptist De La Salle’s brand of education, which is built on faith, service and community building from within.

Brother president Thomas Lavin will helm development in this vein along with elementary school principal Eileen Quigley and high school principal Stuart Glascott.

Four Brothers from the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools will complement the international staff of highly qualified teachers, joining hands to guide students along their rigorous yet personalised academic journey.

Holistic learning is envisioned to be the everyday reality at SJIIM, and this will be largely supported by the Brothers.

Besides providing round- theclock pastoral care, they will also work closely with teachers to nurture strong character development regardless of individual religious beliefs.

This ties in with the service aspect of learning, where students will support a range of charities and organisations through community events that will allow them to develop personally while understanding and appreciating the world.

“Ultimately, this multi- faith, values- driven education will mould students into caring humans ready to serve society,” says Neoh.

Co- curricular and outdoor learning are two other aspects that will contribute to all- rounded progress, allowing students to identify and explore their talents and passions through self- discipline and motivation.

SJIIM will cater to local and international families in the rapidly developing Tropicana area as well as the Klang Valley and beyond. Register now to be eligible for the discounted welcome package for the 2016/ 17 intake.

The management welcomes all new and prospective parents for enquiries and admissions at The Catalogue House, Petaling Jaya, from 9am to 5pm every Monday to Friday ( except public holidays).
