A talk about ‘ the birds and the bees’

-

THIS May 28 and 29, Positive Parenting and KidZania Kuala Lumpur will be jointly organising another series of parenting talks focused on helping parents to discuss with their children the “dreaded” topic of reproduction.

The talks will take place at KidZania Kuala Lumpur Mutiara Damansara, bringing together local child development experts from various fields.

Introducing sex education to your child may be an awkward and sensitive issue to most parents. Parents may not know the right time to do it, and also the correct approach to educate their child about sex.

Consultant developmental paediatrician Dr Rajini Sarvananthan will expound on this by presenting a talk entitled “Talking about the Birds & the Bees”. Parents will be provided tips on how to start talking about sex with their teens at the appropriate age.

When you are dealing with a teen, it is important to connect with them and know what makes them tick. Therefore, consultant paediatrician and paediatric cardiologist Dr Yong Junina will provide insights into the impact of technology on a child’s development, and also provide tips on finding a balance to avoid tech over- exposure.

Clinical psychologist Dr Alvin Ng will guide parents on how to react and manage teen expectations.

Behavioural psychologist Alexius Cheang will be elucidating points on how parents can “build” a resilient teen. He will highlight the challenges that teens face, dealing with failure and how to inject enthusiasm and motivate teens to reach their highest potential.

Admission is free for one adult and one child ( aged eight years and above), so the adults can participate in the talks while their children can experience the city of KidZania.

Free admission for each day is limited to the first 100 people to register via KidZania’s call centre.

Parents stand to gain a lot from the event and children will also enjoy a day of fun.

Seats are limited, so call 1300 88 KIDZ ( 5439) to register now. Normal entrance fee applies for any additional child or adult ticket purchased.
