Connecting students with industry
GERMAN- MALAYSIAN Institute ( GMI) held the annual Career and Education Exhibition 2016 on April 27 and 28, joined by 20 private companies.
The Career and Education Exhibition 2016 is one of the significant programmes organised by GMI Student Affairs Department.
Aiming to give an early insight and kick- start connections between students and the industry, it is also a platform for the students to see what they will encounter in the future.
One of the objectives of this event is for students to identify their platforms for them to get suitable jobs after graduating from GMI.
Apart from that, this exhibition will help students to prepare for the working environment that they will encounter after they graduate.
It can also be seen as an approach to build stronger cooperation between GMI and the industry.
A total of 20 companies across Malaysia and Singapore were involved in the exhibition, namely ASM Technology ( M) Sdn Bhd, Borad World Precision Industry ( M) Sdn Bhd, Ackerman Sdn Bhd, Bitdefender Malaysia, Jeje Manufacturing ( M) Sdn Bhd, Guppy Plastic Industries ( M) Sdn Bhd, UPECA Aerotech Sdn Bhd, Weir Minerals Malaysia, Marbach Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, GS Paper and Packaging Sdn Bhd, Giesecke & Devrient Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Leon Fuat Hardware ( Klang) Sdn Bhd, Muehlbauer Technologies Sdn Bhd, UNIVAC Sdn Bhd, Selangor Human Resource Development Centre ( SHRDC), E7M Education Counselling Centre Sdn Bhd, Technocom System Sdn Bhd, Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd, INTRALINK Techno Sdn Bhd and Airfoil Services Sdn Bhd.
The exhibition also included slots such as open interviews and counselling sessions on the working environment.
Impro Training Academy chairman Nor Azman Abdul Wahab presented the Graduates Career Seminar.
Among the modules he delivered was “Profound Own Potential” on identifying one’s potential and accomplishing goals.
Other modules included “Smart Attract, Fast Bound” on strengthening selfconfidence, “Career Pool, Money Pool” on job markets and “Alternative Careers”, among others.
“This exhibition is seen as a significant approach in the challenging global scenario today as it is also the best platform to meet industry representatives and enquire about career fields offered through an interview process,” said Semester 5 student in Instrumentation Process and Control Mohamad Zulhelmi Jamaluddin.
Another Semester 5 student in Tool and Die Technology course, Muhammad Fitri Ismail, said the partnership in this seminar would instil awareness on the importance of preparing themselves before entering the work environment.
Admission for the June 2016 session is now open.
> Qualifications: SPM / SPVM – Minimum three credits in Mathematics / Additional Mathematics, any one subject Science / Technical and a pass in English.
> Or Technical Certificate from IKM / ITI / any technical institution or Proficiency Certificate Level III ( recognised by JPK) and pass SPM / SPVM with one credit of any subject and a pass in BM.
> Or Pre- Diploma or a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or lower and pass SPM at least three credits ( BM and two other subjects) and pass in English. > Or STPM at least CGPA 2.0 > Other requirements are, Malaysian, not less than 18 years old when applying, do not have a problem with physical disabilities and not colour blind, passed a medical check- up ( medical check- up and urine test).
> PTPTN, Mara and the Zakat and support from the State Foundation provided for those who qualify.
> GMI offers a competitive technical education compared to other educational institutions and will give more options for students to continue their studies after graduation.
