MSU rides the Korean wave

-

MANAGEMENT & Science University ( MSU), through the Global Leadership Programme ( GLP), is focused on the creation of leaders of tomorrow and developing a global mindset among students. This programme aims to provide opportunities for students to enhance their learning experience and develop leadership and global skills.

Recently, another GLP programme – FISE Techtour 2016, Seoul Connection – was organised by students of the Media Science and Graphic Department, Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering ( FISE). This programme saw the involvement of 21 students of Bachelor and Diploma in Games Design and Animation, and Bachelor in Creative Multimedia.

The 5D/ 4N trip took the troupe to Korea University – a private research university in Seoul and one of the nation’s oldest and most prominent institutions of higher education; Gyeongbokgung Palace, built by the Joseon Dynasty in 1395; Nami Island and Mount Sorak; and the Seoul Central Mosque ( Itaewon Mosque).

Other activities organised included a visit to the DreamWorks Animation Special Exhibition – from Sketch to Screen at Seoul Museum of Art ( SeMA) and the Seoul Animation Center.

The visits aim to expose students to the technologies, expertise and international major studio production workflow. Games design and animation is among the fastgrowing industries in South Korea with more than 120 animation studios around the country.

The DreamWorks Animation Special Exhibition is the world’s largest animation exhibition showcasing the entire creative and creation processes behind internationally beloved hits such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon and more. There are over 400 pieces on display, from concept drawings, to storyboards, 3D character models, set models, sheet music for film scores and masks.

Meanwhile, the visit to the Seoul Animation Center ( SAC) provided students opportunities to enhance their knowledge and creativity in games design animation and animation.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government established SAC in May 1999 with the aim of providing comprehensive support to South Korea’s cartoon and animation industry.

The centre runs an information desk, offers educational programmes and holds events to support new talents and productions, as well as hosts diverse events and exhibitions ( animation film festival and such).

MSU gives priority to quality education and the importance of creative teaching methodologies towards producing quality and holistic graduates.

Besides incorporating international exposure in the students’ learning experience, extensive industrial training components and personal enrichment competency elements are also blended into the programme of study to ensure graduates’ employability.

Until now, MSU graduates remain the popular choice among employers. A graduate tracer study conducted by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education shows a 98% employability rate of graduates entering the work environment – the highest among all higher learning institutions in Malaysia.

The Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering ( FISE) at MSU now offers bachelor and diploma programmes majoring in a wide area of interest. These include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Graphic Design, Information Systems Auditing, Games Design and Animation, Computer Forensic, Mobile and Wireless Technology, Creative Multimedia and Media Science.
