Doing the split

-

THE enormous Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas strip is being split into two distinct hotels that will feature an Eataly Market and a new restaurant by Michelin- starred chef Daniel Humm.

It's a US$ 450mil ( RM1.793bil) re- brand that will see the Monte Carlo Resort – one of the most iconic hotels on The Strip -re- baptized as the Park MGM and the NoMad Las Vegas, the latter modelled after the NoMad in New York.

The announcement comes as the property fetes its 20th anniversary this month.

The dual property is being developed to appeal to two distinct markets.

The Park MGM is designed to attract "a younger, well- travelled demographic," with an emphasis on social interaction, connectivity and culture.

To compete with the bevy of dining options in Sin City, home to both Michelin- starred restaurants and 24- hour steakhouses, the Park MGM will feature a fullscale Eataly marketplace, a star- powered gourmet Italian franchise backed by Mario Batali, Lidia and Joe Bastianich.

The property will take up the bulk of the Monte Carlo's nearly 3,000 guest rooms, at 2,700 rooms.

The NoMad Las Vegas, on the other hand, is being developed to attract the high rollers in Sin City and will be significantly smaller than its counterpart, at 292 guestrooms and suites.

The hotel will be designed by the Sydell Group and French designer Jacques Garcia, whose credits include the Royal Monceau and Hotel Costes in Paris.

Helming the NoMad restaurant will be triple Michelinstarred chef Daniel Humm and restaurateur Will Guidara, serv- ing up a casually elegant menu with items like suckling pig with white asparagus, English peas and potato rissole, and duck with roasted rhubarb and fennel.
