Good health through nutrition

-

AS a child, Aaron Ang wanted to help improve the health of the community. With this in mind, he decided to become a dietician so that he could engage people in improving their health by advising them on the right diet and nutrition.

He felt that a course in dietetics would provide plenty of opportunities to help others.

According to Ang, the dietetics with nutrition programme at International Medical University Malaysia ( IMU) is relevant to his job and covers the food service and community modules well.

“Most of the community activities or kitchen whereabouts are very familiar to me when I first started the job as I was well exposed to this during my years in IMU,” says Ang.

To those who aspire to be dieticians, Ang says, “Always make sure you have the passion to pursue what you are doing. You will see the difference in the progress and work you are in when there is passion in it.”

Taught by experienced and practising faculty members, students of the dietetics with nutrition programme can opt to either complete their entire four- year degree locally at IMU or transfer to the University of Otago, New Zealand, or University of Newcastle, Australia, after two years of study at IMU.

To better prepare them for work in various industries, students undergo professional training in their fourth year. They are placed to work in clinical, food service and community settings, providing them with real- life experiences and greater job opportunities.

The commencement dates for the dietetics with nutrition programme are in August and September.

If you possess a pre- university qualification, strong background in science, good communication skills and a caring personal attitude, apply now for the dietetics with nutrition programme.

Bursaries may be awarded to eligible incoming undergraduate students this September as a one- semester fee waiver, distributed over a period of four or six semesters.

If you have just completed your Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and do not have a pre- university qualification, consider enrolling in the one- year IMU Foundation in Science, the direct route for entry into any of the university’s degree programmes.

Find out more about the IMU programmes at the upcoming Open Days on Sept 4 or Info Days at different locations on Sept 3 and 4.

Apply for the August and September intake of any IMU programme during the Open Day or Info Days and get a waiver up to RM800 ( except medicine and dentistry).
