IT has survived two world wars, witnessed the independence of both Malaysia and Singapore from the British, and supplied books to the public for over a century.

From its humble beginnings as a small bookstore selling general titles, MPH Bookstores has since grown to become a major bookstore chain.

This year marks the 110th anniversary of the bookstore, which is being celebrated under the tagline of “Making A Difference”. In celebration of this momentous occasion, MPH Bookstores is having many exciting promotions and offers for its customers from now until October.

A series of roadshows will be held at selected stores, where customers can expect sales with discounts of up to 70% . The first round of roadshows is on from now until Sept 4 at MPH Mid Valley ( KL), MPH Gurney Plaza ( Penang) and MPH Plaza Merdeka ( Kuching).

MPH has also produced a range of limited- edition anniversary merchandise to be given away free as part of its nationwide Spend & Redeem programme.

These include A5 leather note- books, thermal mugs and umbrellas. To redeem these exclusive items, all you need to do is collect stickers every time you shop in MPH starting today until Oct 31.

Customers can collect one sticker with every RM50 spent, and can accumulate stickers to redeem all three items of merchandise without having to start a new card. Additionally, CIMB Bank cardholders will get to redeem an extra RM5 book voucher with every purchase of RM50. All items are availavle while stocks last.

For a limited time each month, MPH will also have an explosive BUY 1 FREE 1 promotion at all its stores. This exclusive promotion will apply to a wide selection of bestsellers including children’s books, young adult and paperback fiction, business and general interest titles, toys, stationery and more.

MPH Bookstores’ history in Malaysia began in 1906 through a missionary named Captain William G. Shellabear, who founded Malayan Publishing House, as it was known then. His farsightedness in bringing modern printing techniques to Singapore contributed to the growth of the South- East Asian publishing industry.

Since then, the chain has grown to 35 stores nationwide. In 2000, MPH Bookstores was the first local bookstore to introduce the megastore concept, with MPH Mid Valley, and was the first to venture into e- commerce, through MPHOnline. com.
