An interpretation of Moroccan heritage
PARIS-based Atelier Pod consultancy was tapped to design the accommodation at the Radisson Blu Hotel Mar rake ch, the new property in Morocco operated by the Carlson Re zid or h ote lch ain.
According to a press release, the main design challenge was to create a contemporary and innovative aesthetic re calling the essence of the “red city ”. The hotel is located in the Gueliz district of Mar rake chan dis part of a mixed-use property development that includes apartments and a shopping ce ntr e .
Atelier Pod focused on the design layout before looking for the aesthetic DNA. The purpose was to breakdown the separation between the bathroom and the bedroom and make a typical object of the eastern Arab design l an- guage , the mou shara bi eh( privacy) screen, the design highlight of the room.
The sliding screen cuts a white monolithic bloc, creating an elegant separation between the bathroom and bedroom, showing on ones idea vanity counter and on the other,a dressing table. The elegance is in the use of the mo us ha ra bi eh, and the extension of its perspective behind a mirror which provides a visual connection between the bedroom and the bathroom.
The dressing table is these condmasterpiece of the room, designed as a multi functional carved monolithic bloc, used at one end as bathroom storage with a corner mini bar column at the opposite e nd .
The holistic design idea for the room is a blend between ethnic patterns and classical Arabian geo metrics. A contemporary understanding of the importance of function is balanced with an interpretation of Moroccan heritage, creating a harmoniously merged space that is personal to Radisson Mar rake ch.
