Culinary arts programme in demand
THE distinctiveness of Malaysian food has given our country an opportunity to become a culinary tourism destination in Asia. Looking at the nature of the hospitality industry, the emergence of culinary tourism has seen rapid growth and this calls for the need of skilled manpower in the hospitality and tourism sector in the country.
MSU College through its School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts (SCA) offers Diploma in Culinary Arts. This programme provides students the opportunity to transform their passion for cooking into a professional skill that will guide them into the lucrative and exciting world of food preparation.
The programme is designed to equip students with advanced skills in culinary arts and strong product knowledge as well as the ability to perform and organise food production according to established international standards.
Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art technical skills in kitchen set-up and organisation, food product knowledge, patisserie, sensorial analysis, menu development as well as food and beverage management.
For entry requirement, students must obtain a minimum of three credits in any subject in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM/SPMV) or hold a certificate from polytechnic, public or private higher education institution.
Upon completion at the diploma level, students can seek employment or further studies by transferring their credit to second year bachelor’s degree in the same field or related courses at the Management & Science University (MSU) through the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA).
Apart from this programme, students can choose other programmes such as Tourism Management, Hotel Management and Food Service and Restaurant Management for diploma programmes.
