HP introduces compact inkjet all-in-one printer

- By LEE KAH LENG bytz@thestar.com.my

GONE are the days when printers were heavy and bulky machines meant only for the office.

Launched today for the Malaysian market, HP’s latest DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700 all-inone series printer is half the weight of other printers in its class.

The company claims that it’s the world’s smallest inkjet all-in-one printer as all three models in the series – the 3775, 3776, and 3777 – weigh in at only 2.33kg and measure 40.3 x 17.7 x 14.1cm.

Despite its petite size and lightweight form, HP has packed all the features one would want in an inkjet printer into the Deskjet 3700 AIO series – namely print, scan and copy – and all for only RM379 (inclusive of GST).

Aimed at the mobile generation who are constantly on the go, users are able to print remotely through the HP All-in-One Remote mobile app. This is done by connecting the smartphone to the printer via WiFi-Direct, which allows wireless printing without a network.

“Consumers crave tiny, wireless devices that fit into their lifestyle and enable them to stay connected, social and productive wherever they may be,” said HP PPS Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Kym Lim.

Another unique feature is the HP PrintBot, which users can ‘friend’ on Facebook Messenger, then chat and send photos as well as documents to. The bot will then forward them to the printer to be instantly printed.

All users have to do is send the bot their selected printer’s e-mail address to activate the feature.

“HP’s new DeskJet turns the traditional consumer printing experience on its head with its innovative, fun design and intuitive mobile connectivity from virtually any device or social network,” she added.

Unlike the older generation of printers which often sport monotone white, grey or black colours, HP’s latest offering easily stands out from the crowd with three stylish colours – Electric Blue, Sea Grass Green and Cardinal Red.

Performance-wise, the printer’s output is rated at up to 8ppm (pages per minute) in black for high quality A4 printouts, while colour is rated at 5.5ppm.

Print resolution on the other hand is rated at up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi (dots per inch) for black and up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi for colour.

Replacement cartridges – both black and tri-colour – are priced at RM35 each. According to HP, the cartridges are also designed with the environment in mind as they are 70% recyclable.
