Star power: THE selfie craze doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon so it’s not surprising that another selfie-focused device has been launched, the Vivo V5, boasting what is claimed to be the world’s first eye-popping 20-megapixel front camera.

The Chinese maker’s latest flagship has taken over the selfie crown from Oppo’s F1s, which previously held the top selfie spot with its 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Vivo Malaysia CEO Mike Xu said that the V5 is designed for selfie lovers to express their personalities and capture moments in their life.

“It’s both functional and ideal for our customers of all ages and with the 20-megapixel front camera, we hope to be able to bring forth a new standard for a picture-perfect moment with every shot,” said Xu.

It also comes with an LED flash on the front for capturing better selfies in lowlight conditions.

The main camera, on the other hand, features a 13-megapixel sensor with phase detect autofocus for faster focusing.

Similar to many mid-range smartphones today, the phone features a front-facing fingerprint sensor that the company claims is capable of unlocking the device in just 0.2 seconds.

Other specs include a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core 1.5GHz 64-bit processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (expandable to 128GB with a microSD card) and 3,000mAh battery.

The V5 runs on Android Marshmallow with a custom user interface called Funtouch OS 2.6.

The phone is priced at RM1,299.
