CHRISTMAS SHOPPING Sparkling choices for the Yuletide
CHRISTMAS and New Year’s is a Glitzy Glam affair at Gurney Plaza this time around, with elegance reigning amidst a festive backdrop of excitement and joy.
Shades of gold, white and black adorn Penang’s premier lifestyle mall, framing a centre piece 35ft-tall Christmas tree made entirely of lightbulbs at the vast Main Atrium.
Surrounding it are many more conifers glistening with a variety of ornaments, circular planters and trellis arches that evoke the feel of an enchanting garden.
These overflow with gift boxes that symbolise the many goodies and gift possibilities shoppers will find at the shopping mall straddling Gurney Drive and Kelawai Road, throughout this holiday season.
At its main Gurney Drive entrance, there is another archway with conifer cutouts and decorative touches to welcome visitors, while at the Kelawai Road entrance, a troupe of reindeers and glittering lights add a touch of magic at night.
Festivities got off to a glamourous start with the Christmas launching ceremony at the Main Atrium on Tuesday, with Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey in attendance.
There was a Christmas Choir performance alongside dance numbers, followed by the eagerly anticipated appearance of Santa Claus who distributed chocolates and mini bounce-back cards to guests.
The jolly bearded man in red will be appearing again at 1pm and 4pm today and tomorrow, as well as on Dec 17, 18 and 24.
Each Meet Santa session is limited to only 50 children, so be there early.
Otherwise, bring your young ones for the Kids Occupational Educational Workshops at 3pm on Dec 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23, and let them test their creative skills. It is limited to only 45 children per day.
Adding to the atmosphere are the Merry Music series of live Christmas performances featuring harp, jazz or musical bands.
It is on at 6pm on Dec 16, 3pm and 6pm on Dec 17, and 3pm on Dec 18.
For the Christmas weekend, times are 6pm on Dec 23, 3pm and 6pm on Dec 24, and 4.30pm on Dec 25.
All the activities listed above will be held at the Main Atrium, so drop by, listen to heartwarming melodies and have fun.
Gurney Plaza will bid farewell to 2016 and welcome 2017 with a blast of upbeat tunes at the New Year Countdown Party at the Al Fresco area from 8pm onwards on Dec 31.
There will be live band and dance performances alongside stage games and more for shoppers and their loved ones to party well into the night.
