Perfect DVR for your car
AVAILABLE for new Nissan cars, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) recently introduced the new Driving Video Recorder (DVR) with Wi-Fi connectivity, a car-video recorder that allows drivers to record and capture the journey of any drive, even when the car is parked.
The DVR features a wide camera angle of 150°, which is almost twice the width of a driver’s line of sight. This means that even if the driver misses something that is happening on the road, the DVR will be able to capture the scene.
The DVR has an advanced lens with six layers of coating, video-recording of up to 1,296 pixels in high definition (HD) and good low-light video-capturing quality thanks to the low-light image sensors.
These features may not seem like much but during conditions such as glaring sunlight, pitch darkness and emergency situations, it may prove to be useful. In this age of connectivity and pairings, the easy-to-operate DVR also comes with wireless connectivity so you can effortlessly pair your Android or iOS devices through the TCAT DVR app. This allows the user to configure, download and watch the recorded videos – much like an action camera.
The DVR automatically turns on and starts recording when the car is switched on. Mounted on the rear-view mirror, the DVR sits flush and is not entirely visible. The technology does not end there as the DVR has a built-in gravity sensor. In the event of an unavoidable collision or emergency brake, the change in momentum automatically triggers the DVR to lock the recording. Videos recorded during these times are write-protected to prevent crucial recordings from being overwritten. In the event of an accident, such recordings can be used to prove that the driver is not at fault.
When the car is in parking mode and motion is detected, the DVR acts as a CCTV even when the ignition is turned off. On a lighter note, one could record sceneries and sights to remember road trips. Forgetting your camera is not a problem as you can just switch on your DVR and enjoy recordings in HD. These videos can be saved to be viewed and enjoyed with family and friends.
In conjunction with the Nissan year-end campaign, ETCM is offering Nissan Almera’s new buyers the DVR at an additional RM1. This is on top of the current RM1 promotion that entitles buyers to either the NISMO Aerokit or 6.5-inch display Multimedia Navigation System. Terms apply.
The DVR comes with a warranty of three years or 100,000km, whichever comes first.
“We recognise that many car owners are installing video recorders as an accessory to identify incidents along their journey, especially in light of an accident,” says Tan Keng Meng, executive director of ETCM.
“We at ETCM believe that we can live up to the expectations of our current and potential customers with the introduction of the new DVR that is designed based on OEM (original equipment manufacturer) requirements. Unlike other aftermarket DVRs, the DVR that is offered by ETCM are designed to fit with all Nissan vehicles’ rear-view mirrors,” he adds.
In this day and age where more people are resorting to the aftermarket fitment of video recorders, the addition of one from the manufacturer itself was a long time coming.
It is hoped that with these recorders being standardised in more cars, the number of accidents on the road can be reduced.
