UTAR’s solid foundation

-

THE dilemma for many high school-leavers at the end of their schooling days is to choose work or pursue a higher education.

It basically is about finding the most reliable path to a brighter future.

Fortunately, for high school-leavers, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is the ideal stepping stone to getting them there.

Beginning with a foundation programme leading to a bachelor’s programme, students upon graduation are met with a 97% employability rate within six months and promising careers ahead of them.

Achieving that starts with enrolling in UTAR Foundation programmes at its Sungai Long or Kampar Campus.

Students pursuing the Foundation in Science are sorted into the Physical Science or Biological Science streams based on the intended degree programme after completion of foundation, while students of Foundation in Arts are streamed into Arts and Social Science or Management and Accountancy.

“The unique one-year programmes in the disciplines of Arts and Science are customised to prepare students with enhanced academic knowledge, presentation skills, teamwork and critical thinking skills,” said the director in the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) Kampar campus Tan Lee Siew.

The completion of a UTAR Foundation programme bestows students with essential skills, such as communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, numerical, analytical and computing skills.

Students in the Foundation in Arts are equipped with strong fundamentals in business, language and social science.

Foundation in Science students, on the other hand, are coached in the basics of mathematics, Information Technology (IT), science, engineering studies and technical competency.

On a collective note, UTAR Foundation programmes essentially prepare students to cultivate a self-learning approach to education, and to develop research, presentation and time management skills.

Along with its quality education, affordable programmes and complete facilities, UTAR is confident in its ability to provide students a supportive and challenging environment to realise their full potential.

Not limited to good lecturers and indoor classes only, CFS also places emphasis on outside classroom activities to encourage students’ growth. It organises outdoor activities to help them adapt better to university life and includes counselling sessions by the Department of Student Affairs, aimed at promoting students’ intellectual, emotional and career development, and arming them with coping strategies for life’s challenges.

Talks are also held to reach out to students on various topics, such as environmental causes and industrial experiences, to humanitarian issues, which expose them to knowledge from both local and international speakers.

CFS also organises competitions and award ceremonies that act as platforms for students to showcase their potential, reach for new heights and recognise their accomplishments.

It also encourages students to take part in local festivals to interact, learn new cultures and expand their social networks.

Enrolling in UTAR means more than just pursuing a good education, it is a character-building journey of self-discovery for the students.

This is important as UTAR strives to provide students with a learning experience that will instil consciousness in their roles within this rapidly changing and technology-oriented world.

Established in 2002, UTAR today offers more than 110 programmes in various fields at both its campuses, which collectively houses nine faculties, three institutes and three centres.

It has over 26,000 students and more than 45,000 alumni.

In conjunction with the January 2017 student intake, UTAR is inviting school-leavers, their friends and families to UTAR Open Day for programmes enquiry and participate in the open day activities.

The Open Day will be held on Dec 17 and 18 (Saturday and Sunday), 9am-5pm, at UTAR Kampar Campus in Perak and UTAR Sungai Long in Bandar Sungai Long. UTAR is also having its extended counselling hours at the UTAR Sungai Long and Kampar Campuses daily, 9am-5pm (excluding public holidays).
