Making ideas happen at Heriot-Watt
BUSINESS, with its multidisciplinary nature and wide reach, is a popular study choice for students. They are able to choose a specialisation that best suits their strengths and skills.
Furthermore, as Malaysia moves towards becoming a high-income nation, opportunities in the business field are sure to abound.
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s School of Social Sciences offers a wide array of Business and Psychology-related programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university also offers a Foundation in Business programme, which serves as the perfect launching pad for students who are looking to pursue the Business field.
Established in the 1800s, Heriot-Watt University has been recognised time and again for its excellence. These include being ranked 27th in the UK and fourth in Scotland by the Guardian University Guide 2017.
The university is also placed first in Scotland for some of its courses, which include Accounting and Finance, and Economics, and second in Scotland for subjects, which include Business Management and Marketing.
In ensuring that students receive a professionally relevant education, the university works hand-in-hand with industry professionals to develop and accredit their curricula. This practice ensures students receive invaluable practical study experiences that will come in handy as they progress into the working world.
Another advantage offered by Heriot-Watt University is its intercampus transfer programme: Go Global.
In today’s interconnected, globalised world, having international study experience has become a highly sought after attribute.
Heriot-Watt’s strong presence in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia puts it in an optimum position to offer students just that.
Under the Go Global programme, students are able to transfer to their campus of choice provided the programme is offered there.
The use of similar curricula at all of Heriot-Watt’s campuses ensures a seamless transfer process.
This campus transfer option is open to the university’s students who have completed their founda- tion studies and are continuing with their undergraduate studies, as well as current undergraduate students.
Fraser Scott is a Business student who recently transferred to HeriotWatt’s Malaysia campus from its Edinburgh campus.
“The campus transfer to Malaysia was not something that I ever dreamed I would be doing when I applied to Heriot-Watt University,” he said. “The Go Global programme has allowed us to gain an international experience without taking a break from our education. I also believe that the international transfer will help me stand out among other candidates when seeking employment as most employers understand the benefits of an international experience.
“The main factors that influenced my decision to choose Heriot-Watt University for my higher education were the quality of education and the preparation for real-world scenarios. It is clear that learning the syllabus is funda- mental to the success of any student, but I do not stand alone in claiming that my education has pushed me further. The courses incorporate tasks that require a high level of team-working, presentation and leadership skills.”
The university has now opened a January 2017 intake for some of its undergraduate programmes.
This head start will give students the chance to complete their first year by August 2017, and subsequently begin their second year come September 2017. Furthermore, Heriot-Watt’s Pioneer Scholarship of up to RM1,000 is also available for the January 2017 undergraduate intake.
