BOOK lovers, here’s a chance to catch up on some of the most popular books of the previous year.

The MPH Best of 2016 honours some of the most popular local and international titles published last year.

A total of 78 titles have been nominated in eight categories, namely Best Paperback Fiction, Best Young Adult Fiction, Best Young Readers, Best General, Best Professional, Best Malay Fiction, Best Malay Nonfiction and Best Chinese.

The ultimate winner of each cat- egory will be crowned at the Best of 2016 award ceremony at the Putrajaya International Book Fair 2017, which takes place from March 28 to April 2 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Titles are nominated through a selection process involving an assessment of international reviews as well as recommendations from book buyers. Also considered is the titles’ sales performance at MPH Bookstores nationwide and at its online store, MPHOnline.com.

Nominees in the Best Paperback Fiction category include John Grisham’s Rogue Lawyer, Harper Lee’s Go Set A Watchman, Charissa Ong’s Midnight Monologues: Poems And Short Stories, and Tunku Halim’s Horror Stories 2. Some of the titles in the young adult fiction category are Cassandra Clare’s Lady Midnight, James Dashner’s The Fever Code, and Ransom Riggs’ Tales Of The Peculiar.

If nonfiction is more your thing, you can check out nominees in the Best General category, which include Cheeming Boey’s When I Was A Kid 4, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali’s My Name Is Hasmah, Nujeen Mustafa’s Nujeen and Musa Hitam’s Frankly Speaking. Those who favour self-improvement will probably be drawn to the Best Professional category, which has Thomas L. Friedman’s Thank You For Being Late and James Rickards’ The Road To Ruin.

Malay readers can choose their favourites in the Best Malay Fiction category, which includes titles like Aisya Sofea’s Derita Cinta (Agony Of Love), Jeffrey Zain’s Creepyposta, Anjell’s Hero Seorang Cinderella (A Cinderalla’s Hero) and Ramlee Awang Murshid’s Imaginasi (Imagination).
