UQ and HELP – unique help at hand
HELP University (HELP) is the only university to have a 2+1 articulation programme with the University of Queensland (UQ).
Last year, 74 business students transferred to UQ, 15 of whom were awarded scholarships.
HELP often receives complimentary feedback from UQ on its students’ performance and achievements.
World-ranked
One of HELP’s most distinguished graduates Dr Kelvin Tan Jui Keng recently shared his progress as an academic at the world-ranked UQ.
Dr Tan was promoted to senior lecturer in finance at the UQ Business School and was awarded the 2016 Early Career Researcher Excellence in Research Award by UQ’s Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.
Dr Tan completed his Diploma in Business with distinction at HELP in 2004 and went to UQ to complete his Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), where he graduated with First Class Honours.
He joined UQ’s Faculty of Business School after completing his PhD.
He specialises in capital structure, corporate finance, debt financing and econometrics.
Based on his flourishing research profile, Dr Tan was invited to undertake applied research for the Australian finance industry.
His work has been published in A-ranked academic and practitioner journals, such as the Journal of Corporate Finance.
Two of his papers have also been recognised as Best Papers at both the European Real Estate Society Conference and the Sixth Behavioural Finance Conference.
Close relationship
HELP has a close relationship with UQ – a member of the Group of Eight Universities (Go8) in Australia, a coalition of leading universities in Australia.
During HELP’s 30th anniversary celebrations in April last year, UQ presented a “30th Anniversary HELP-UQ Bursary” worth A$10,000 (RM33,600) to commemorate the long-standing relationship between UQ and HELP.
Tiffany Tan Wen Hui was the first and only recipient of the bursary which helped contribute towards her living expenses.
Tiffany was also awarded a partial scholarship to complete her Bachelor of Commerce studies at UQ.
Recently, scholarship winners from HELP studying at UQ, Cheong Min and Carmen Chan Sze Ern, with coursemate Jay Chai Li won third prize in the UQ Malaysian Students’ Association Think Tank Competition.
The annual competition allows students to be innovative and find solutions to global issues.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting at HELP encourages students to take part in numerous accounting and financial project competitions.
Students are closely guided by lecturers and are encouraged to work in groups.
They are encouraged to learn from each other and their seniors.
The business students win awards on an annual basis at various competitions.
Competitive edge

– it gives students a competitive edge when they start their careers.
HELP is renowned for its business, accounting and financial programmes.
Its graduates are well received by various industries, finding jobs within six months of graduation.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting at HELP is one of the largest business schools in the country and its Bachelor of Business (Accounting) (Honours) degree is recognised by international professional accounting bodies ACCA, CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Those with STPM qualifications can pursue a business, accounting or finance degree can receive HELP’s 30% waiver on tuition fees while a 25% waiver awaits UEC graduates at HELP.
There is also a 30% waiver on tuition fees for those interested in pursuing a hospitality management or tourism management degree.
HELP also provides scholarships such as the School Achiever Scholarship Awards (SASA) to outstanding students with good leadership and academic results.
The programmes are fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and all its business diploma and degree programmes are listed on PTPTN’s loan list.
HELP’s business programmes are offered in the Subang 2 and Damansara Heights campuses.
