Stunning victory

-

IT WAS my first time being the team captain. I was very nervous. Would we emerge victorious? Would I be the best team captain? These thoughts raced through my head during the half-hour ride to the sports complex.

The event started with a march past. “Here we go, Pokemon Pikachu Team!” I roared as my team members stepped out on the tarmac. The crowd that had turned up for the event cheered and gave a big round of applause.

After the march past and speech by our principal, it was time for the rat race event. The parents cheered at the top of their voices. After the first telematch, we were leading by a good margin. We continued with the other games. The cheering got louder and louder.

Besides the telematches, there were also prizes in five other categories this year: Best Sportmanship, Best Athlete, Best Teamwork, Neatest Team, and Best Team in March Past.

While waiting for the results, parents and teachers took part in a few telematches. Our sporting principal joined in the fun. It was our turn to cheer them on.

Finally, it was time to announce the prize-winners. The overall champion was Pokemon Pikachu Team! I was stunned.

“Captain, please step forward to collect the prize,” announced the emcee.

Besides the games, we also won in three of the five special categories, namely, Best Sportmanship, Best Athlete and Best Team in March Past.

My team members were screaming with joy and excitement as I stepped forward to collect the medals. All our hard work had paid off. I had almost lost my voice during the march past practice.

That day, my team walked out of the sports complex with three giant hampers, and a haul of medals.

We had a wonderful time celebrating our victory. – By Ryan Woon Txe Xin, nine Write away!
