Making an impact in the music industry

-

A SUCCESSFUL career in the music industry requires you to be proficient in an instrument, have a good musical ear, strong understanding of music theory and the ability to write, arrange and produce music.

Leading college

Established in 1996, The International College of Music (ICOM) is the leading college of contemporary music in Asia, offering a diverse selection of programmes that assist you in realising a successful career in the music industry.

These include a two-year Diploma in Business Music Industry and a Diploma in Sound Production, a one-year Foundation in Music that leads to the 3+0 Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Professional Music or to a music degree at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, US.

Track record

ICOM sets itself apart with single-minded institutional focus on providing impeccable music education in Asia and is supported by a track record of successful graduates across both eastern and western regions.

Being at the forefront of musical excellence, ICOM’s programmes are developed in consultation with music industry experts and educationists to ensure every module meets the demands of professional employment in the music industry.

The RM40mil state-of-the-art facility guarantees top tier education and ensures student musicians have everything they need to pursue an education in music.

Along with music centric modules, students take business-related subjects such as publishing rights, business communications, principles of management and entrepreneurship to further acquire skills that are transferable to work environments.

Helmed by a faculty of revered industry professionals, ICOM is dedicated to developing independent critical thinking of student musicians for problem-solving and innovation that prepares them for the music industry of the 21st century.

The one of a kind two-year Diploma in Business Music Industry at ICOM is the answer to musicians and music enthusiasts who desire to work in the music industry.

Throughout the programme, students will learn the business core of the music industry and be engaged in environments such as record labels, music publishing houses, copyright law protection as well as artist and event management companies for a hands-on experience with the industry’s best.

The full-time programme is highly career-centric and prepares you for a rewarding music business career.

From the May 2017 semester, student musicians who aspire to master in sonic arts will be able to enrol into the Diploma in Sound Production.

A two-year course, students will develop skills to record, mix and master music and audio using the best audio production equipment and software the industry has to offer together with working with artistes to realise their EP, album or single.

Rich in diversity

Located off Jalan Pahang, the college campus is rich in diversity.

Through the hallways, one can hear echoes of music and students deep in discussions on compositional styles or the similarities between Frank Zappa and Edgard Varèse.

An ICOM tradition, the weekly Friday Performance is a must-visit staple that showcases eclectic works from student musicians from over 15 countries – enough to convince a banker to give up his or her profession for music.

“Consectatio Excellentiae: Pursuit of Excellence” is ICOM’s motto and it is evident that the college does not stop for anything less than that.

An ICOM student is one who is musically talented, articulate, driven and serious about making music a career.

If this description fits you, ICOM wants to discover you.

ICOM’s admission is now open for the May 2017 semester.

Malaysian students are encouraged to complete their application by April 7 to be considered for the May intake.

Students can opt for a live audition or choose to submit their audition videos online.

Interested applicants may contact the admissions office at 03-4023 6000 or admissions@ icom.edu.my to register for any of the programmes.
