Go global with Heriot-Watt
BUSINESS has a wide reach and vast potential for growth, making it a popular area of study for students. What’s more, as Malaysia prepares to become a high-income nation, lucrative career opportunities in the business field are expected to abound.
Heriot-Watt University has long been making a name for itself in the business field. This has been further corroborated by the host of accolades it has received, including being placed 27th in the UK and fourth in Scotland according to the Guardian University Guide 2017.
Additionally, Heriot-Watt was ranked in the top 25 for its programmes, which include accounting and finance, by the Complete University Guide 2017.
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s School of Social Science offers students a wide array of business and psychology-related courses.
The university continues to stay true to its commitment of providing students with a professionally relevant education by enlisting the help of industry professionals in designing its curricula.
This practice ensures that the syllabi and learning materials used adhere to industry requirements and are relevant to the shifts and changes in the industry.
Moreover, these programmes have been structured to meet the membership requirements of the relevant professional bodies.
In today’s interconnected world, having a global study experience has become a sought-after attribute by many employers.
With strong presence in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia, Heriot-Watt University offers its student a global education via its intercampus transfer programme – Go Global.
Under this programme, students have the opportunity to transfer to any of the university’s campuses as long as their programme is offered at the campus of their choice.
The use of a similar syllabus in all the universities ensures that there is little to no academic barriers for students.
Jock Lockhart is a transfer student from Heriot-Watt’s UK campus and is currently pursuing the university’s MA (Hons) Business Management programme.
“I had always been aware of the array of university partners and campus located around the world – Heriot-Watt holds a remarkable global presence. Half way through my second academic year at the Edinburgh campus, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s provost and chief executive office Prof Robert Craik conducted a presentation about the campus transfer opportunities,” said Lockhart.
“The presentation explained about affordable food, travel and unforgettable experiences coupled with the fact that exchange students averaged at 8% better than at home. The opportunity to study in Asia, specifically Malaysia, seemed like an experience which I was unlikely to ever get again, so I signed up.”
A Scot, Lockhart shared that he has always intended to study within Scotland.
“While I attended high school, I found that I was drawn to business-based subjects, ranging from economics to accounting. This was my primary influence when researching universities in my penultimate year of high school. I wanted to be a part of a university which had a high-achieving business school and consistently received high rankings across the board.
“Heriot-Watt came up in my searches as not only having an impressive range of business based degrees but constantly performing well in the UK and global rankings,” he said.
According to Lockhart, Heriot-Watt’s campus in Edinburgh affords a beautiful backdrop and environment to study as it is situated in the outskirts of the city, in the remarkable Scottish countryside.
