WITH over half a century of educational ties between Malaysia and the UK, there is no doubt more students are seeking better quality education beyond Malaysian shores. Students seeking a UK education in art can now pursue it locally at The One Academy, Bandar Sunway campus.
Together with a prominent partner from the UK, the University of Hertfordshire, The One Academy has been offering three 3+0 degree programmes in the past couple of years – the Bachelor of Art (Hons) in Graphic Design, Bachelor of Art (Hons) in Interactive Media Design and Bachelor of Art (Hons) in Interior Architecture and Design.
With over 150 years of excellent UK design education, University of Hertfordshire is renowned for its distinctive business-savvy education in various disciplines. Coupled with The One Academy’s edge in practical skills and creative prowess, this results in a collaboration that not only cultivates students able to create quality work, but also skilful at implementing creative ideas.
What makes these degree programmes different?

With digital convergence becoming part of our lives and the demand to live in comfort and style growing rapidly, marketing has also evolved and become more personalised, leading to respective fields of interactive multimedia, interior design and architecture and advertising and graphic design to become increasingly popular, leading to vast job opportunities and career advancement within the fields. The three elite degree courses offered at The One Academy proved to be relevant and on par to the demands of the market needs.
The BA (Hons) Interactive Media Design reaffirms students on their existing knowledge on digital convergence and how to tap on its unlimited potential. It is also all about creating new avenues for more creativity and endless possibilities. They will also actively participate in competitions to test themselves in the market.
The BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design offers undergraduates the opportunity to develop an excellent creative interior design and architecture knowledge.
This unique UK Design Degree programme combines interior design and architecture disciplines for students to study and develop intricate knowledge in interior architecture design.
Students are also required to participate in competitions to see where they stand in the market. Also featured is renowned celebrity designer Dr Eric Leong, who is also The One Academy School of Interior Design head of department.
The BA (Hons) Graphic Design prepares students for the exciting world of graphic design. Through this meticulously planned degree course, students are constantly challenged to generate ideas, develop visual skills, understand culture, especially Internet culture and its influences in graphic design and most importantly, actively take part in competitions to test themselves in the market.
The 3+0 UK degree programmes also cater to parents’ needs. Being conducted at The One Academy campus in Bandar Sunway, these degrees save up to two-thirds of what would normally cost to study in the UK. Nevertheless, with the flexibility to complete the final year in either Malaysia or the UK, these programmes definitely offer great opportunities for quality education.
Since the launch of the collaboration, many The One Academy–University of Hertfordshire undergraduates have graduated with flying colours. Under the guidance of distinguished lecturers, they organised their graduate works showcase – The One Academy Degree Show, in which various works on par with industry standard were showcased. Many of these talented graduates are now employed in multinational corporations, which underscores their edge in this competitive world.
