CHINA Europe Hospitality Education Group (CEHE), a global organisation established with the support of renowned international hotel groups and higher hospitality education institutes worldwide, collaborated with Berjaya University College of Hospitality (Berjaya UCH) to form a locally based institution.

This collaboration is intended to develop an international culinary educational joint venture and establish the Asian Institute of Culinary Arts, Berjaya UCH-CEHE (AICA).

It aims to promote international talent exchange and cooperation programmes as well as facilitate the Chinese and Asian cooking educational training between the two countries – China and Malaysia.

On Jan 19, Berjaya Higher Education Sdn Bhd’s executive director and chief executive officer Mae Ho and CEHE’s chairman Prof Li Li formally launched the AICA.

“It is an honour to be recognised by CEHE as the top institution of higher learning specialising in hospitality management and culinary arts in Malaysia. The synergy between Berjaya UCH and CEHE – one of the most influential hospitality groups in China – will facilitate the Chinese and Asian cuisine educational training between China and Malaysia. The cooperation will also promote the international exchange of talents to ensure that our students are equipped with technical, behavioural and managerial skills required in the corporate world,” said Ho.

According to Ho, the partnership enhances the learning curve for its students through not only the appreciation of their culinary heritage but also the cross-cultural promotion of gastronomy, culture and education.

Ho also mentioned the timeliness of the recent launch of Berjaya UCH’s Heritage Cuisine Programme, where heritage cuisines from various states of Malaysia are being appreciated through this programme.

“It is my hope and vision to see that students of today do not forget their tradition, culture and heritage, especially of Malaysia, where the culture is rich and colourful. It has become my mission to ensure that this rich gastronomic heritage of ours is not lost to modernisation but shared with the sophisticated gastronomic world of today,” added Ho.

The opening ceremony was held at the main campus of Berjaya UCH, located in Berjaya Times Square, and was attended by the top management officials from both institutions.

CEHE’s founder and chairman Prof Li Li, who has a strong background in economics and management with a focus in hospitality and tourism management, said, “Our vision is to cultivate students to become outstanding professionals and leaders with exquisite skills, good qualities, solid theoretical foundations and innovative competencies through the culture exchange programme, joint development, international cooperation and comprehensive education. This collaboration will serve our vision well.”
