A celebration of achievements
ON Jan 10, the iconic Petronas Twin Towers was given a dash of festive joy as bright-eyed graduates, proud parents and the crème de la crème of the Malaysian Legal Profession gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for Advance Tertiary College’s (ATC’s) 27th Grand Convocation Ceremony and 30th Anniversary Celebration.
For 30 years, ATC has prided itself on living up to its motto of providing quality education at affordable prices and introducing countless high achievers into the Malaysian legal and commercial landscape.
This year would prove to be no exception, as the dedicated staff and diligent students outdid themselves once again to return an amazing 39 Second Upper and one First Class students in a single sitting for the prestigious University of London Bachelor of Laws Programme.
Fitting reward
The night got off to a splendid start as the graduates took the stage in the Plenary Hall to bask in the limelight and receive their scrolls as a fitting reward for years of hard work and exceptional mental fortitude.
This year, they had the added honour of receiving the scrolls from the distinguished University of London pro vice-chancellor (International) Dr Mary Stiasny and University of London Undergraduate Laws Programme director Reverend Simon Askey.
The business graduates had the privilege of receiving their scrolls from deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan while ATC’s senior adviser and shareholder retired Federal Court judge Datuk Bentara Luar Hashim Yusoff also presented awards to some of the prize winners.
Also present was the judge from the International Court of Justice Julia Sebutinde and ATC’s academic adviser Prof Dr Wayne Morrison of Queen Mary University of London.
Exceptional performance
In celebrating the achievements of its law, business and CLP graduates, ATC also honoured the exceptional performance of its other students, be it in the academic field or in the fast-paced and challenging world of Moots where the mooters received their awards from retired Federal Court judge Tan Sri James Foong.
After the awards had been handed out, the graduates were given an injection of inspiration as the renowned prosecution and defence trial lawyer with the International Criminal Court and International Court Justice in The Hague Datuk Shyamala Alagendra, an alumna of ATC, delivered the convocation address.
After the ceremony ended, the graduates and guests made their way to the Grand Ballroom for an eight-course dinner, delightful entertainment and the presentation of ATC’s Outstanding Alumni Awards 2017.
The ATC 27th Grand Convocation Ceremony was a rousing success, filled with laughter and illuminated well-deserved academic victory, cementing why ATC has been and will continue to be the premiere provider of legal education in the Asian region.
