MSU’s award recipients flying high
IN the run-up to its recent 20th convocation ceremony, Management and Science University (MSU) celebrated another group of excellent MSUrians – students who made it to the President’s List.
Academic merit
In recognition of their academic merit, the President’s List awards students who accomplished a grade point average of 3.75 and above throughout three consecutive semesters.
This event was officiated by MSU’s president Prof Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.
Also present were MSU’s vice-chancellor Prof Puan Sri Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, deans and senior managements as well as parents and students.
The month of February saw a total of 284 winners across the university’s bachelor and diploma programmes – 90 students from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) were awarded the President’s List, followed by 60 students from the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) and 30 students from the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE).
Meanwhile, the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) and the School of Pharmacy (SPH) presented 45 and 26 students, respectively, while 22 students from the International Medical School (IMS) and 11 students from the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) made the list as well.
According to Prof Shukri, the importance of education is not only to attain knowledge but also to develop one’s character, attributing academic excellence to personal diligence, lecturer perseverance and parental support.
He also spoke about the skills of communication, critical thinking and creativity being especially important to personal and global competitiveness.
Passion and capacity for lifelong learning should be the personal characteristic driving a necessary pursuit of contemporary skills in meeting the needs of a modern, technology-driven world.
MSU adopts the holistic approach to education to ensure well-roundedness in its graduates.
With a high record of 98.6% of MSUrians obtaining employment within six months of their graduation, the university was awarded the QS five stars for excellence, not only for its graduate employability but also for teaching, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness.
On top of that, MSU has also been awarded the Best Entrepreneurial Private University 2016 by the Higher Education Ministry.
As an applied and enterprise university, MSU offers programmes at postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation levels, through connected pathways that admit students from all walks of life and personal backgrounds.
