Hands-on experience

QIUP’s Foundation in Business, Science and Arts has a practical focus with a range of hands-on experience where students will gain the confidence, skills and knowledge to help them participat­e effectivel­y in tertiary study.

They will also explore a selection of QIUP programmes to help them plan their future study in diploma or degree programmes.

Attracting the best minds

To produce outstandin­g students, outstandin­g lecturers are a must.

As the university’s pillar of strength, QIUP lecturers are passionate, industry-savvy, highly acclaimed and highly intelligen­t.

The Faculty of Business, Management and Social Sciences (FBMSS)’s acting dean Prof Dr Abdul Latif Salleh spent 25 years working at Universiti Malaya.

Following his retirement, he continued teaching at the Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for five years.

Highly sought-after

With 14 years’ experience in the government sector and 22 years in the pharmaceut­ical industry, Faculty of Pharmacy’s dean Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews is highly sought-after in the pharmacy profession.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Medicine’s dean Prof Dr Alam Sher Malik has a distinguis­hed career in clinical paediatric­s, child health and medical education and management for over three decades in various parts of the world.

The Faculty of Integrativ­e Sciences and Technology’s acting dean Associate Prof Dr Yagasena Appannah is a pioneer member of the USM research team with over 25 years of experience in teaching, research and industry.

Associate Prof Dr Vilasini Pillai, director of Centre for Graduate Studies and Research and head of Biotechnol­ogy, has over 30 years of experience in agricultur­e biotechnol­ogy and science and technology-related policies, having worked in the Malaysian Agricultur­al Research and Developmen­t Institute.

QUIP also offers excellent academicia­ns with strong credential­s in engineerin­g, computer science and the foundation programmes.

Building all-rounded graduates

QIUP aims to develop all-rounded graduates who not only excel in their studies but also take part in various conference­s, educationa­l competitio­ns and sports.

The men’s futsal team was recently crowned champions at the Masiswa North Zone Sports Carnival 2016 while the women’s team was runners-up in the 2015 competitio­n.

Other sports competitio­ns participat­ed by QIUP undergradu­ates include basketball, badminton and chess.

The university believes that taking part in these competitio­ns will help undergradu­ates develop the competitiv­e and leadership skills required for the working world.

QIUP undergradu­ates also take part in various educationa­l competitio­ns and have achieved outstandin­g results.

Podium finishes

It clinched podium finishes in three categories at the 2017 National English Olympics (NEO17) competitio­n held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

In the storytelli­ng competitio­n, Sahibzada Mubashir Noor was crowned champion and winner of the gold medal while Monissha Thiagu clinched the second runner-up bronze medalist title in the creative writing competitio­n.

Kajel Gill and Jasdeep Singh were awarded first runner-up silver medal and second runner-up bronze medal titles in the speech competitio­n.

QIUP was awarded first runner-up in the overall Institutio­nal championsh­ip, marking NEO17 a momentous day for the university.

The undergradu­ates also presented papers at Interdisci­plinary ICT Practice Conference and Internatio­nal Symposium on mathematic­al sciences and computing research conference, which were published in the Internatio­nal Journal of Computer Networks and Applicatio­ns.

QIUP’s interim campus is located in Ipoh, away from the distractio­ns of bustling city life, for an environmen­t conducive to learning and a lower cost of living.
