Explosive night
Boyband EXO he ats up the KL conce rt ve nue with its pe rformance .
STADIUM Merdeka was undoubtedly the most explosive spot in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday night when it was swarmed by hordes of Malaysian fans braving heavy downpours to party with EXO, currently the hottest boyband on the K-pop planet.
The rain on Saturday afternoon might have left the pitch soggy and the seats wet, but the 15,000-strong fandom was so fired up that it was just as well it rained earlier to keep the temperature down.
The group’s fans, known as EXO-L, welcomed the boys with a deafening roar and their screams went on and on through the night.
Kuala Lumpur was the K-pop group’s very first outdoor concert for its EXO Planet #3 – The EXO’rDIUM tour, which kicked off in Seoul, South Korea, in July last year.
EXO comprises nine members, aged 22 to 26: Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Chen, D.O., Kai, Lay, Sehun, Suho and Xiumin.
It was a major disappointment for many when it was announced earlier that its Chinese member Lay couldn’t join his mates at the Kuala Lumpur leg of its concert tour. But Malaysia’s passionate EXO fans made up for it by screaming the loudest and chanting his Chinese name (Zhang Yixing) every time his face lit up the LED screens on stage.
Malaysian fans also managed to surprise Xiumin when they serenaded him with the Happy Birthday song in both Korean and English. Xiumin, whose birthday falls on March 26, was visibly moved by this show of affection.
The boys wowed their adoring supporters with their slick dance choreography and delivered 34 songs in the three-hour-long show. Fans sang along to its many hits such as Wolf, Monster, Growl, Heaven, Angel, Lucky One and Call Me Baby.
The atmosphere was so electrifying that the boys wished for rain, and it did rain near the end of the concert just in time to disperse the heat!
EXO Planet #3 – The EXO’rDIUM is the K-pop group’s third major tour.
It has already played in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines. Upcoming stops are Singapore, Mexico and the United States.
