New product range for better oral care
NEGLECTING proper oral care may not be life threatening, but it may cause issues that will affect quality of life, as oral health is an important determinant.
Examples are difficulty in eating, dental pain, lowered self-esteem, restrictions in social interactions and even affect employment prospects. Despite the seriousness of the subject, dental health awareness is still low in Malaysia.
In the National Oral Health Plan developed by the Health Ministry in 2011, data provided on the current situation in Malaysia showed 76% of children aged five years have cavities in their teeth.
And about 90% aged 20 and above have experienced dental caries. Similarly, only 26% aged 15 to 19 and 5% aged 35 to 44 have healthy gums. Those with plaque within those age groups are at 60% and 55%.
