The way to a global career

-

NETWORKING opportunities, career advancement, a big-picture perspective and transferable skills are common factors that motivate individuals to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

However, finding the right institute for an MBA programme involves extensive research. To make the right decision, an individual should not just consider an institution’s ranking but also understand the reason for pursuing an MBA.

For Dinesh Krishnan, the MBA dual-award programme offered at Sunway University, validated by Lancaster University, is his ticket to a global career.

“After two to three years of working, I narrowed down my study options to either a master’s in engineering or an MBA.

“I finally settled with the MBA because I knew this is a faster track to take up larger management roles globally and I did not want to delve deeper into the technical side,” says Dinesh.

“I knew that I needed more than technical knowledge once I started working as there are many factors involved in making businesses work and interconnections between different parts of a project.

“This is where the MBA comes into the picture – by helping me use the knowledge gained to analyse situations from a broader perspective,” he adds.

Currently working in the computer data storage industry, Dinesh shares that the launch of the MBA dual-award programme in Malaysia in 2014 at Sunway University came at the right time as he was planning to pursue an MBA programme abroad.

“I decided to check it out and was quite satisfied with Sunway University’s partnership with Lancaster University in the United Kingdom.”

Dinesh, who is of the first cohort of the MBA programme at Sunway University, adds that the MBA programme offered met most of the criteria he was looking for in an MBA programme, such as Lancaster University’s accreditation and its ranking in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking for more than a decade.

According to the 29-year-old engineer (new product introduction), he gained many new perspectives by combining the knowledge he acquired during his MBA programme with his eight years of working experience.

“This changed the way I think. I discovered that my interest lies in certain subjects such as strategic management. I also gained some experience in managing a company through a game in the consultancy challenge subject,” he says.

Working in project management and product development, Dinesh says his job requires him to oversee and execute large projects as well as meet tight deadlines.

“The programme has helped me see things from different perspectives such as why it is critical to have deadlines, the amount of savings gained if a project or product is released earlier, and the necessity of capturing the market share before other competitors,” says Dinesh.

Sunway University, in collaboration with Lancaster University, launched the MBA dual-award programme for aspiring managers who had ambitions of becoming strategic leaders within an increasingly complex organisational and business environment.

The premier programme is delivered using the unique Mindful Manager approach, designed to develop students’ cognitive and collaborative skills as well as their judgment and decision-making ability.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates receive two certificates – one from Sunway University and one from Lancaster University.

Sunway University is a renowned business education provider within Malaysia while Lancaster University is ranked in the top 1% of universities globally and has been delivering MBA programmes that are triple accredited and globally recognised by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

To maximise the career potential of Sunway University’s premier dual-award MBA, join a preview session on April 1 at 12.30pm or on April 6 at 6.30pm. The preview session will be held at Sunway University Graduate Centre.
